2 questions about unclear rules in manual

Sat Nov 08, 2008 2:42 pm

Hi
Just bought WW1 and reading the manual to death awaiting for Nov10th... I have 2 questions about things not that clear in the manual (I refer to the French manual):

Interceptions : in "Enemy Interception" p8 it states that the intercepting player is the defender, but later in "3. Battles", it says the enemy is the defender. Or maybe I didn't get to which side the statement refers... The second method makes more sense but I'm unsure.

"Trench war" : several times the manual says that the war doctrine goes from Movement in '14 to Fire (trench warfare" later, but doesn't specify what triggers the change : event at a given time, scripted on some condition, player decision ?
As this is a major change I'd like to know how it's handled !

thanks for any help !

1 - when you succesfully intercept the enemy (during the enemy's move), you move into position...but when the battle takes place, you're still the defender...

2 - From november 1914, tests are conducted every turn and nations will start to "learn" that entrenching is helping defense...it will take 2 turns before the 'change' from movement warfare to fire doctrine ( = trench warfare) is implemented... later on, technologies and weapons will make the trench level grow ( from a start of 0 to a max of 3), rendering defense stronger and attack almost suicidal...

Thanks Philippe !
The manual should be more detailed about #2, as it looks quite an important change.

Also, naval battles are pretty much undocumented and not in tutorial...
