The American Civil War is undoubtedly one of the most important conflict in the modern era. But do you know everything about it?

Answer to the question below and get the game for free! We will reward the first 10 correct answers with a code in the following days!

Question:

The Battle of Fort Stevens, occurring July 11-12, 1864, was a Union victory. Yet it could have possibly altered the course of the war in the Confederacy's favor with the death of a single person's life, which would have been a major coup for Lieutenant General Jubal Early as he was leading the Confederate forces in the battle. It is possible this person's life was saved by Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr shouting at him "Get down, you fool!"

Who was this important person who was nearly killed at the Battle of Fort Stevens?

Ellen Franklin, testing her bullet conductor once returned to America from France.
She disliked being traited as fool and immediatly returned there
(she then died in Nice, 11 years later).

If she had died in the battle, the Confederate would be able to take her invention,
and Lincoln would die too for he would want to test it himself
(the invention was an early access, and was never released).

Abraham Lincoln. I think that the standard narrative has him wearing his signature top hat on the occasion. The Holmes thing may be apocryphal but the rest is pretty reliably sourced.

He was, indeed, wearing his top hat: a bullet had pierced it, near the crown. Holmes had seen the burst of felt, and his resulting excitement was the cause of his temporary loss of decorum.
