Tutorial hangs!

Installed the last 1.10 patch and when I press the british flag to start a window error appears and the game crash to desktop.

Window 7 64 bit and using the gamersgate version.

Other scenarios seem to work well.

I am not certain why this happens. I have tried to recreate you problem with the tutorial hanging. I cannot do it.
Have you tried running as an administrator? Maybe this will fix the issue.

No, sorry, I ve tried with administrator rights into compatibility options and It does not help.

I'm about as far from being a software engineer as you can get. I'll even go one step farther, and clearly state that I don't know what I'm talking about.

But I couldn't help but notice that some of the annoying little messages in the margin of your log reminded me a bit of some messages I kept getting a few weeks ago when I was having trouble getting AACW to start.

I wasn't crashing to desktop, I wasn't even getting that far. And it was very discouraging.

I uninstalled the game, and then patched a clean install. That didn't solve it, it only seemed to make things worse. Then I defragged and started over, uninstalled, ran chkdsk /r, installed and patched, defragged several more times before, during, and after, and to my delight and astonishment, the problem went away.

I'm running on Windows XP so none of this may be of any use to you. But my non-professional take on what is going on is that the program has to go through a lot of precise twists and turns to fire up properly, and if there is anything amiss anywhere in the computer, it may throw the whole thing off.

chkdsk /r strengthens and repairs damaged links, and I think that running it might be the key to fixing a problem like this. And even if it isn't, it will make your computer run a little better. And don't forget the clean install part, with lots of defragging before, during, and after install. The downside is that chkdsk /r takes time to run, and even defrag isn't quick if your hard drive is scrambled enough.

I'm not suggesting, by the way, that the problem is the user's fault because his computer innards are messy. But having slightly scrambled DirectX links seems to confuse these programs, and if the problem can be cured by a little preventative maintenance, why not?

By the way, I just tried running the tutorial and didn't crash. But I'm using WindowsXP and defrag every other day or so.

(I also make regular sacrifices to the corrupt hard disk god).

Weird that the defrag solves Philippe's issue!
I run Vista, and SmartDefrag [free, highly recommend it, as it does much better than Windows Defrag!]

I don't think defrag was solving the issue. I think what made a difference was chkdsk /r. I think what was happening was that paths to parts of the DirectX program were just damaged enough that when the Ageod engine looked for DirectX components it couldn't find them immediately and got confused, bringing the whole program down.

That's what I think may have been happening, but my comments on something like this are a bit like someone trying to interpret the meaning of the shadows on the wall of Plato's cave.
