Permanent crash problem with graphics

Actually, I've just bought this game a few days ago, and I can play it without any major problem, except the fact that I can't see the whole map without crashing.
I mean, as soon as my party start, if the plot is minor (like the tutorial or the Pequots scenario), I can see the few "activated" regions, but as soon as I wander about the rest of the continent, the game crash with a message I post below:
and the real problem is with the wider campain, for instance with the Quebec campain, as soon as I move away the starting plot centering around Quebec city, the game crashes as well... So basically, I can say that I cannot play the game.
Strangely enough, I've never encountered such an issue with World War One and NCP.
See this image to understand way better (as I'm absolutely aware that I'm everyting but clear here):

Are you running Vista or Windows 7?
If so, Have you installed or updated DirectX 9?
Otherwise, Please generate a DirectX diagnostic report and send it to

Vista's inherent DirectX10 is not fully backward compatible.
DirectX 9:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en
I'm running Vista, and this works just fine.
Also:
Try the following:
1. De-activate your UAC [how-to at:
http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=11621&highlight=disable+UAC ]
2. Uninstall the game
3. Use Explorer to find "Wars in America" folder under Program Files.
4. Delete the "Wars in America" Directory and all it contains [you will lose saved games]
5. Reinstall WIA, but change the default directory box to read "C:\AGEOD\Wars in America" [or any hard drive you wish]
6. Download the latest patch from:
http://www.ageod.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=1997. Extract the patch file and run it [it shoud automatically go to the "C:\AGEOD\Wars in America" location]
8. Run WIA

I don't why but I can't download your file... Oo
If I click on the link they give if "the download don't start automatically" I just get a 0.02 Mo file.
And if gray was right, then it's damn problematic for me, as I'll never change my video card (I got a laptop).

You should get a 293 kb file.
Run it, it will detect the directx files you may need, download and install them

Ok, if you say so... It's just that they told me 90 Mo, and I didn't... Whatever, I'll try it.

What a hell... It's not a memory problem apparently, and the directX update didn't change anything... I'll guess I'll have to renounce to play this game, unfortunately this will not be first nor the last. Computing is really harsh to cope with.

That error has been reported several times in the past
Wait for Pocus' answer, he commented several times it could be related with the screensaver?

Unfortenately I've seen all the precedent topics about it, concerning BOA I, ACW... but the common point is that there is no real solution established since there. And I have the feeling that if there was one, it would be way too complicated for my little brain.

Strangely enough, I've been playing since 21 pm and I've not encountered any problem... Don't know why. Hope tomorrow will stay like this.

are the turns you are doing in summer/autumn? Because your last error is about a winter graphic.
Some video cards, even new ones (mostly ATI btw) don't like the massive change in graphics that occurs when the regions images switch to winter...
if you start getting crashes when winter arrives, then there is a trick, it is to not play with winter images (better than not play at all) and it involves editing a text file.
In any case, you'll also want to reduce to the leftmost checkbox the 'max texture size' option in the Options Window, System Tab, Main menu.

I can play roughly play this game, I'm in 1799 now, and sometimes I don't encounter any problem for a 4 hours play, and often the game crashed as soon as I move quickly my pointer, and I can restart as many times as I can in a row, this will still bug again and again, and frequently at the same place (for instance if I click on an event taking place in Fort Stukuwiz, my computer is bound to crash).
I've also reduced the max texture seize but it doesn't seem to have any influence on that bloody issue. However the phomenon have shrinked, and if it is still annoying, I can play my beloved game correctly though.

Um, if you are in
1799 at
Fort Stukuwiz, are you sure this is Wars in America???

This may also be the old problem that existed in AACW, related to the large graphic areas (eg, ocean areas), and is not related to the graphics card chip or memory but with the RAM memory and how it loads and unloads such huge chunks of bytes. How much RAM have you ?.

I didn't get that you were talking about RAM, sorry...
I got 3 GB actually.
And when I look to the Windows Task Manager, with just Firefox with several pages and this manager, roughly 0,95 GB are "used" (between 32 and 34%).
With BOA II, I'll still have 30% of my memory free, so I don't know if it's the issue.
