Memory Leak?

Mon Dec 22, 2008 11:48 am

So, the game slows down to a crawl right after the start of 76 in the long campaign. The first time I tried it, I ended up getting some error, the second time I just ended to program in anger...

I'm using the beta patch, so I guess I'll re-do the installation....hope that works.

Mmm... don't know... i have played recently the 1775 campaign until October 1776 with the latest beta patch and did not have any problem (My computer is five years old but with 2GB or RAM) :bonk:
By that date, there are quite a lot forces on map, but unless you have a very old computer and little RAM its not normal... specially as you seem to play AACW (much bigger forces) without problem.
Maybe do you have something else running on the background?
Maybe you should post the logs after experiencing a CTD so some team member can have a look at it. :)
Regards!

Eh, I'm going to cut the bigger regions out and see if that helps...thanks for the quick reply.

Also, try turning off "textures initialized" and "regions pre-caching"

As a last resort, for older computers reduce "Max texture size"

All these are under "System" in main menu options

These worked well for me when I was running a 6 year old laptop with 1GB Ram...

Be sure yoyu have up to date graphics drivers installed...

I've cut down the region or texture size, because it really doesn't affect the main map too much, just some ocean that I don't really look at anyways.

It seemed to do the trick, as I got to where I got before without any slow down. I now have to ask just how long the game keeps going after I exit it. I watched it in the taskmanager window for a good long time and it never quit. It's not a huge problem I suppose, but it's a tad annoying.

It quits instantly ... on 99% of the computers. :) We can check your DxDiag file to see if you are up to date on drivers, this can help diagnose the problem.

It took 15-20 seconds on my old 'brick' to clear out, but it always 'went away'

The record to beat is to run an AGE game on a Windows 98, 384 Mb of RAM and 32 Mb of video memory. He who get below that will get a smooch from a random, female, member of the community (or from Athena, but she is kinda weird sometime).
