Thanks for the thread, arsan.
I'll check it out.

I did indeed check for SpyBot.
I went ahead and deleted it from my system.
Unfortunately, getting rid of SpyBot had no effect.
AACW still won't load up.

I'm thinking that there is a difference between the disk version and download version.
Maybe if I turn the disk version back in, download AACW, then try to install that, and see what happens.
I can tell you that the one that did work for me, WiA, was a DOWNLOAD version.

Again I missed your answer Gustfire, sorry!

When the progress is halted at one third, it means the agesettings program is invoked and ask you for your key. Although sometime, on some computers, it is invoked and blocked by a security program you have in memory, without the possibility of appearing.

So... it means anyway that your key is not yet entered correctly. I don't understand how it can be that editing general.opt and adding it into the file can't allow you to run the game. Can you send me your general.opt file directly to my address? pmalacher@age-studio.com, this will hasten the process.

Success!

Okay, I finally got AACW loaded up successfully and working again on my computer!

I think there were two reasons.

The first was SpyBot; as another poster pointed out, the culprit was TeaTimer.exe.
I deleted SpyBot entirely.
But that didn't end the matter, because there was a second problem.....

The second was Dell Support Center, and the culprit here was one of their files, sprtcmd.exe, which monitors applications.
It turns out that that file needed some updated support files that it was not getting.
It therefore was acting up, and causing AACW to not launch properly.
I downloaded the necessary files, sprtcmd.exe is now happy, and ALL IS WELL.

There are still some lingering questions about sprtcmd.exe, and how safe it is, but that is a story for another time.
AACW is working now, and that's what matters to me.

Great that you are able to play again. :)
And thanks for the information, it will surely be helpful for others as well.

I can only echo what Primasprit is saying; good to hear that things are working, and rest assured that the work you have been doing to get the game working will be of help to others facing the same problem in the future :)
