Fort Names

Tue Apr 14, 2009 11:25 am

Does it strike anyone else as slightly odd that when you built a fort it receives the FULL name of the ranking officer present, such as "Fort Edward Braddock" or "Fort Thomas Gage". Personally I have never heard of fort in North America being named after anyone that way, and one of my American friends confirms that. They would receive only the LAST name of the person in question, so "Fort Braddock" or "Fort Gage". Wouldn't it be more historical that way, and could it be changed to work that way (easily)? :)

Only problem I see with that if both the Howe brothers decide to build a Fort. :w00t:

Dunno. What happens if Braddock builds a second fort? I haven't tried yet, but I suppose the game engine has to provide for that possibility, somehow. :D

Maybe no problem.
AFAIK, you [or the engine] can name a structure anything including duplicate names.
It's region names that must not be 'messed with'

Does that mean I (as the player) can rename a structure?

If it does not mean that, what do you think of my original suggestion to use last names instead of full names? :)

No renaming [yet]. We don't even have script command to do that [yet]

I'd rather use precious dev time to give us a scripted rename capability, or even better, a user rename capability [similar to the ability to name a group/stack] :w00t:
