Questions About EP

Played the 1776 campaign a bit the celebrate the 4th and had a great time. But I'm still trying to understand how EP works. Two questions.

1. Say, for example, that the numbers at the top of the main screen say I have 9 EP. I go to the ledger and look at all the ways to spend EP (training troops, etc.). Everything costs more than 9 EP. But when I click on them, the seal shows up and it looks like I've made a purchase even though I apparently don't have enough EP. What's happening?

2. Each month, I get a notice saying some troops were trained. But I didn't spend any EP to do it. So presumably I get some training whether I spend EP on it or not. So what's different if I spend EP to train troops? I assume I just get more more troops trained than if I hadn't spent the EP, but I want to be sure how it works.

Thanks. Having fun so far.

We'll give more details tomorrow, but right now:

1. The action is not activated if you do not have enough EPs. For some technical reasons, we have not (yet) managed to gray out the purchase seal...

2. The monthly training comes rather from officers and commanders that have a slight chance of training troops under their command. Does not relate to EPs

Sometimes a unit with experience will upgrade, giving the 'trained' message... :)
