Militias Disbanding

I'm playing the "Whites of Their Eyes" campaign, v 1.06

About 10 militias disbanded simultaneously in the winter of 1776 (at the end of the turn) after I got the message that Montreal (i believe that was the Canadian City) was not captured.

Is this WAD? The were all in structures and spread through the country; many were in armies that did not lose any other units. Supply was okay, etc.

I believe that prior to this the British gave amnesty to "all" Yankee troops.

IIRC, one of the biggest command problems faced by the Americans in the Revolutionary War was militias literally melting away once the campaign season ended. Only a relatively small cadre of the Continental Army could be counted upon to remain intact through the winter. Thomas Paine dismissively called the militias "summer soldiers".

Some of the militia soldiers came back when the winter ended. Many did not. It was a major problem for the Americans. The Britsh had the same problem with the "Tory Militias" who supported them in the South, but the bulk of their forces were professionals. (Of course, many British and Hessian soldiers became deserters and melted into the colonial populace when they tired of the fighting and the discipline.)
