Hi folks, a few screenshots from the new scenario. Testing is going well - but new graphics are a bit more of a struggle

Looks good. So are the Abenaki a third faction, allied to French? That would be cool :)

The participation of Indian allies for both sides is controlled by numerous events. I didn’t really see a need to add another faction.

Thanks chaps. If anyone would like to make a few commander graphics for the scenario it would be a great help to save time - although I think I will be able to do this myself using Nikel's guide. I'm just going to take a few of the existing but less well known French and English leaders (also not using the pictures of Pocus etc as this might jar) and give them a bit more hair in the style of the day and remove some of the uniform markings. It should only take 20 - 30 minutes to do one - so if anyone gets a quiet Sunday afternoon ....

Cheers, Chris

Is he in your list of commanders for this scenario?

Remember that is Pangi who creates them identical to stock, he has many open fronts though :)

If you don't like in golden variant, tell me ;)

Nikel, he looks great - but I worry a bit about the gold look. I think it might look odd if I have some commanders with this style and some with the regular style. If they all had the same look it would be fine.

Hmm :)

Hi Nikel, I have put your portraits of d'Iberville, Phips and Frontenac into the game - they look great! d'Iberville is a naval commander here but I may change him to land.

Thanks again!

D'Iberville was also a naval commander, as his fights in Hudson Bay can tell...IMHO he should be a dual leader (land & naval)

Yes there were a few of those back in 1689. What is the best way to model this with WiA?
I assume just making dual leaders land - but possibly giving them a seafaring ability?

Look at Admiral D'Estaing in WIA: this French Naval leader is also a General and so can command land troops. Just do the same and it will go fine.

You can now even use the new parameter developped by Pocus for telling the AI the leaders affinity (ask Lodi, he knows ;) )

Thanks Phil, I'll do that. Any info about the parameter Lodi/Pocus - please let me know.

Hi folks, I thought it was about time I posted some fresh screenshots.
The scenario is still in progress. Most of the work is done but now I have to start with the horrible job of balance testing.

Image

One idea I had to keep the scenario fresh for several plays is to give players the option to allow hypothetical events.
The AI will always choose this option so it is up to the player if he wants to allow it (PBEM games both players will have to select it).
If they do, each side will have a 75% chance of hypothetical options being made available to them - but they will come at a price.

Image

Frontenac returns to New France :-

Image

There are quite a few events that just add historical flavour to the game - denoted by the *. They have no effect on the scenario.

A few more screenies for info. Still working to get a reasonable balance.

Image

The game map stretches from Hudson Bay to New York, from Michigan to Terre-Neuve. A small part of it here.

Image

EP per turn can be increased by having control of certain regions.

Image

A bit of action. Phips attempts to gain the surrender of Québec.

Image

Frontenac gives him short shrift. Judging by the condition of Phips' fleet and the militia force arriving in transports, they are in no position to make an assault on the city
(I will need to make some amendments here - there should be some cohesion loss after their journey -
but it is very high, even without the storms and disease they could have encountered).

Image

Cheers, Chris
P.S. the mortars shown have little effect on the battlefield - but do still give the regular artillery benefits during a siege.

EDIT: New screen - adding a couple of reasonable traits to Phips and Walley (Brave and Militiaman) has helped a lot with the cohesion loss. Phips also has quickly angered now -
overall probably a better model of his personality.

I have given Phips a few more attributes, Seaman and Brave - offset by Quickly Angered. Walley now has Militiaman.
All pretty much in keeping with their actual traits and the cohesion loss in now much less of a problem.

Cheers, Chris
