Canadians

Playing 1775 campaign, I have the 1st and 2nd Canadian regts which can be gained by event (I guess) if you seize Montreal early enough. Both have seen action, lost elements and re-gained them, so they both have a mixture of originals and replacements.
I notice that the original elements have the state location icon like militia, but it seems to say "MT". I'm guessing this isn't short for Montana - what does it mean? And does it signify the same effect as for normal militia: -10 cohesion out of the home area?
I notice that the 1st Rgt just gained a new element - "Canadiens" with the courier des bois uniform picture! I've seen this kind of element for British Canadian militia before, but I didn't realize the American Canadian units could get them too? Otherwise, the two regts are made up of the original elements, some generic (no home area) militia, and one even gained a rifle element.
These units are sort of a footnote, but I think they're a cool little feature in the game. Je me souviens!
