Winning the Pequot Scenario

Tue Nov 24, 2009 5:31 am

This one is interesting as the British/Native alliance has just 8 turns. I have won on points, but a decisive victory seems improbable. The Pequot AI immediately attacks Hartford, which is indefensible. The only immediate counter is uniting the Mohegans/Narrangansetts, but the combined force is too weak to capture Mystic/Misistuck or Wongum. By the time the Endecott/Mason forces are activated, it's too late to unite them and manage to hold the necessary strategic towns AND capture the Pequot village.

Has anyone scored a decisive victory in this scenario? The best I've done so far is a tactical victory with 40 points scored. This is a good scenario for learning how to handle force combinations.

Your post prompted me to have a few more goes at this scenario and after a few tries at different strategies I finally got a major victory holding all the objectives and strategic towns with a points score of 45-1 !

Overall strategy was to use the initial native warriors (Mohegan and Narragan) as a holding force combined in Norwich then spliting off one native unit to cover Middleton and start a seige of the Pequot Village. I didn't try to stop or counter any attack on Hartford (though the garrison did repel the first turn's attacks).

When available Mason's army was used to retake and then externally defend Hartford it's native warriors were then detatched to join the natives allready in Middleton.

Endecott's army went by fleet to New London to beseige Misistuck with the supply unit moving to Prividence before combining with Endecott's army.

On the penultimate turn I launched all-out assaults on Pequot Village (which had at this point been breached by the seige) and Misistuck which I took and then held through the final turn of the game.

All my forces were kept where possible on an offensive posture and in the areas rather than in the towns/villages to hinder through movement by the enemy.

There was luck involved but it is possible.

I'm still learning the game but this and the other shorter scenarios with limited numbers of active forces make the learning process a lot of fun with out being overwhelmed with the analysis paralysis of too many things to do and control.

Back in April I did one from the other side - there's a short forum post on it.

I like these small scenarios and wish there were more, but most people seem to like the longer bigger ones - same as for NCP and AACW.

I got 40/9 victory , with all objectives met at June turn and 52/9 victory holding all objectives at end of turn 8. 1st turn I sent Mohegan, Narragan against Misistuck, capturing it in a few turns, then I destroyed it and went against Pequot village(siege). When the British forces were available took back Hartford, captured and destroyed Pequot village and followed up chasing down aand defeating most of the dispersed Native forces.
