Activation setting

Sun Nov 01, 2009 7:26 pm

Something I've wondered about:

In WIA, the default activation option seems to be the third one (which states that generals who fail their activation checks have a high chance of not being able to move at all). In other Athena engine games, the default is the second choice (which states that unactivated generals suffer a movement and combat penalty, but can still move).

Is this difference intentional? Is WIA "balanced" for more realistic play with the third option chosen instead of the second?

Thanks!

Hi Paul!
Long time since i last see you around! Welcome back!
Regarding your question, i think that as a WIA beta you may have one of the very first game release versions. On this early 1.00 (or so) installers the default activation setting was on "hardened" by mistake IIRC. :bonk:
On posterior versions of the game (surely the one someone could buy now) it was corrected ans defaulted to the middle one. So most of the players have the middle one as default
This setting difference is very easy to change by the player (in options menu) but difficult to fix in a patch as the user settings file should be erased ans substituted by a new "standard" one.
The problem is that on this file you have stored all your personal settings chooses and your serial number, and this woudl be lose. :bonk:
Probably the fix woudl be worse than the problem, so AGEOD has not tried to "fix" it as is no biggie and only affect the very early buyers. :)
Personally i use to play on the standard setting.
But if you like hardened, WIA is probably the best game to try it, as the game uses a revised set of hardened activation variables that don't let low supply stacks became locked by leader inactivation (so they don't starve in place )
So it's a little less "hard" that on AACW or NCP. A good thing as supply in WIA is particularly scarce and important (many wilderness on the map)

Cheers!
