Greetings,

Complete AGEOD noob here who just began playing WIA in advance of Rise of Prussia. I wanted to get some experience with another AGEOD title to get the feel of mechanics, gameplay, graphics, etc.

I have tried the 4 turn demo and need some help/advice. First off, I have to admit my gaming tastes usually trend towards games with a more "hands on" feel. Some of the games currently on the hard drive include Hearts of Iron 2, World in Conflict, CIV 3, Rome TW, Operational Art of War 3, Combat Mission. I believe the closest match to WIA is the Operational Art of War. The difference is I'm very well versed in WW2 history, strategy, tactics and personalities. Can't say the same about the time period for WIA.

So, I guess I'm looking for some advice on how to approach this game. There is obviously great depth and detail, but I also appreciate a game I can become fully immersed into. Add to my above mentioned fact that I don't really know too much about the era, and I seemed to find myself somewhat unable to immerse myself as the pixelated General moved himself and his soldiers across the map (gorgous map by the way). Can any of the seasoned players offer some insight?

Thanks in advance!

Hi!

The demo also has 12 turns of the American Independence war IIRC.
Not sure about what kind of advice you need :bonk:
Any concrete doubts/comments you have?

In any case, check some of the AAR of the game here
http://www.ageod-forum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=195

And maybe look for some background info about the era on wiki to get the feeling of the campaigns. I didn't knew anything before playing Birth of America and has learned a lot since then.
Its a very interesting setting and teh game captures teh feeling of the campaigns very well :coeurs:

About the "hands on" approach, WIA works like a Combat mission but on a very different scale/era. (Each turn is a month instead of a minute!)
You give orders to the best of your guessing ability about enemy intentions and current intelligence and the see how thins develop for the turn and how your orders and plans interact with the enemy ones.
As on CM, things tend to not go as planned ;) That's the fun part
Cheers!
