Just wanted to post this for the benefit of those who might come here seeking enlightenment on this subject (a search revealed no previous posts about it in this forum). But first:

DISCLAIMER: Linux is not one of the officially supported operating systems for BoA2. Hence, AGEod can offer no help with problems you might have trying to run BoA2 under Linux.

I believe that's right, anyway. If not, somebody correct me.

That said, BoA2 runs perfectly for me out of the box using Wine 1.1.9 in Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex." It installs, patches, and plays without a hitch. In Wine terms, it's a Platinum App. In fact, I have games that are supposedly written for Linux that aren't as well-behaved as BoA2. Bravo, AGEod!

I don't know whether this is due to a conscious effort on AGEod's part or not, but it has certainly made a fan out of me. The newest version of AACW runs equally well, as does the Democracy 2 demo.

I suppose that NCP (released between AACW and BoA2:WIA) would run fine, too.

We are weaning ourselves away from Windows in our household (we have 7 Linux systems, 3 Windows XP, 1 Mac OS X, 1 FreeBSD). It's good to know how far Wine has come. Games being just about the only reason left to run Windows XP around here, Wine progressing in this area takes us that much closer to our goal.

berto, Ubuntu and Wine are totally changing the rules. I sense a major revolution coming once gamers realize just how many Windows games they can run under Linux now, and just how easy (and free!) Ubuntu is to set up and run. It really is a whole new ball game.

Just FYI, I can get most any game a couple of years old or older running in Wine with (usually) minimal or no fuss. Newer games are sometimes tougher since they use newer DirectX functions that haven't been fully fleshed out in Wine yet, but even there, the Wine guys are so on top of things that I'd estimate over 50% of brand new games can be played after the application of a little elbow grease. I've already played Fallout 3 and that's, what, a month old?

I have one underpowered Ubuntu system around here (devoted to ftp downloads and CD/DVD burning), and all of our Windows XP systems dual boot into Ubuntu for monthly dd backups. (I run SuSE Linux on our servers.) I have another mid-range system earmarked for an Ubuntu (and dual-boot Solaris x86) install soon. I'll be sure to give Wine a try again (first tried it about ten years ago), as I've been reluctant to shut that currently WinXP system down for PC gaming, but now it seems I don't have to!

Hey, no problem at all. Happy to help. Just remember that the Wine App Database is your very best friend, as well as the Ubuntu (or whatever distro) games forums. Spend a little time with these and you'll learn the ins and outs of Wine game tweaking in no time.
