Strength recovery

Tue Aug 19, 2008 9:53 am

Sometimes a unit with reduced strength (after a battle or moving), that is in a region with an unbesieged and supplied structure, doesn't recover its strength after some turns as it is expected.

This has happened to me for example after taking Fort Duquesne, with my army inside the fort the whole winter and the strength levels remaining reduced.

Are you sure that you have replacements of the right type available?

I thought replacements were for lost elements, to replenish empty slots in a unit, not for strength recovering.

Anyway, I'm plenty of them. The replacements information window has lots of British infantry symbols.

Actually, replacement chits are used for both :)

I've often seen that I have numerous replacements of one type of infantry available, while lacking replacements I need of other types, which is why I ask.

I'll check it. Thanks.

If you play with the historical attrition setting enabled you need to be on a depot to recover strength or full element.

I'm not sure if in WIA a fort is enough to recover hits.
Usually you need to be at least on level 2 city... but i tend to mix the rules form the different AGEOD games sometimes so i'm not completely sure :bonk:

Besides, as Rafiki says, there are different kind of inf replacements.
You will need British infantry replacements for regulars, elite inf replacements for grenadiers, light infantry for light infantry, colonial/American (not sure how its called) inf replacements for provincials, militia replacements for militia...
Regards!

Also, if you have 'Hardened Attrition' option on, you need to be in a depot to recieve new elements. [Manual rule 15.2]

AFAIK, The level of city, depot and fort will also increase the speed to regain strength.

I've noticed that regaining strength is slower during winter in all cases, then the elements regain strength fairly quickly in spring.

Manual says that replacements are taken in towns, cities and depots (harbours for ships), so in a region with only a fort there are no replacements.

My doubt now is if native villages are considered "towns" for replacements purposes.

Correct for 'normal attrition' setting.

AFAIK, 'recieving replacements' is getting full elements replaced.

Eventually, strength is regained from any structure, but very slowly...
