Size of the French Expeditionary force and other questions...

Sun Jul 13, 2008 12:52 pm

Ok I played the American side and had the French intervening. A couple of questions ...

First, how many points are required to bring on French intervention? And do they take a year to send their forces?

Also do the English ever see the way foreign opinion is swaying? When playing the English the number is always 0.

Lastly how big is the French Expeditionary force? Is it just one squadron of heavy ships and the other land forces? Do they ever get replacements? (the Spanish do)

Tnx

+100 FE points allows French events to start.
Forces arrive over time, with some randomness on appearance after the 'Ben Franklin treaty'

They should. Could be 'ye bugge' :)

It is historical. Ships & Troops. Multiple groups. Yes they get replacements.

Multiple groups? Wow I must have missed something coz I only saw a small Spanish squadron and a larger French one + troops mostly already present on the map. Is it possible that I only saw these guys because in my game, intervention came rather late?

Could be. AFAIK they are on a timer that starts at declaration of war...

There are 5 French reinforcements that take 2 years+ from declaration of war [French entry, not French Alliance]

Galvez arrives irregardless, but Spain declares war a year or so after France...

But nothing can happen at all until you achieve +100 FI points. :)

BTW are you including the Spanish units that arrive in Cuba and New Orleans or are talking about French units only?

Where can I see the foreign intervention level as the British?

BTW can you explain the difference between the French alliance and French entry? I mean in game terms. Is the French alliance the same one as when Ben Franklin goes to Paris? Does it have any ingame effect?

BTW has anyone ever seen the French declaration of war event? Does it have any ingame effect beyond the arrival of French and Spanish Troops.

One last point, just to nitpick a bit. :innocent:

Am I right in thinking that the Dutch were also involved in the war. Holland is also included in the map. Are there any plans to include Dutch forces in the game later on? Or will Holland just be open for American raiders? Just curious :siffle:

French Alliance is the culmination of political influence. NOT same as 'Franklin arrvies'. In game terms, it is when FE = 100, then starting a series of 'dice rolls' for French to declare war. [This is a significant change in WiA: in BoA, these 'declaration rolls' started atomatically, regarless of the status of the war. This way, the Rebels must have positive success to gain French support.]

Declaration of War probability is modified by British 'total control' of Theaters [New England, Middle State, South Central, Deep South]. Total control = owning all Strategic towns in a Theater

Declaration is pretty much troops only

Discussions under way about the Dutch...
