Admiral Rowley Destroyed on Arrival

Tue Dec 15, 2009 4:04 am

I am playing the 1775 Campaign PBEM as the British. We are playing with the latest patch 1.06.

It is January 1781 and I just had a bizarre disaster. I got a message that "Admiral Rowley Leads a Squadron to the Carribbean." I eagerly looked to see where my reinforcement squadron was. I could not find it. Then I noticed another message beneath, two days later, stating that "the Fleet Detachment is landlocked and has been destroyed." Clicking on each message focused on the region of Ft. Toulouse which is north from Pensacola and borders no water.

Apparently Admiral Rowley arrived inland and his fleet was hence immediately destroyed. Needless to say, the First Sea Lord was not pleased.

Has anyone else had this happen? I am sure it is a bug and since we are talking the destruction of an entire British reinforcement fleet I think it qualifies for a hotfix. I sent support an email attaching the files.

Erf, 'tis ye bugge! :(

You have mail. :D

Simply put, this and many other events were modified in patch 1.05 to create some variable arrival locations.

In haste, I copied a regions list that included Ft. Toulouse, whch is landlocked :o

Fix will be included in next Interim Update.... :w00t:

Thank you for this report!

Hi

Thanks for the very prompt and informative reply. Mistakes are human, but it is not always the case that game companies are so prompt to respond.

For our game, we will assume either an unseasonal hurricane or attack of madness by George III resulted in the recall of the Right Honorable Admiral Rowley's Fleet and His Majesties forces will carry on.

The Rowley event brings one naval transport (named Cornwall), 1 Royal Marine unit, Carribbean Rangers and 1 Supply unit (no Admiral Rowley though). I don't know if this would happen, but if the British controlled the fort in the Emuckfaw region it could be that the land units are there and only the Cornwall was destroyed.

Just a thought.

Joe

  • They arrive as group type NAV [loaded on ships]
  • The engine recognizes that the NAV group is in non-water region
  • The default for this is same as a newly frozen water region "seek adjacent port or be destroyed"
  • No port = destroyed

Code writer is supposed to avoid arrival of ships onto land, and didn't this time :o

Upcoming interim Update fixes this....
..hope to release update this week
