Murat in 1814???

Tue Jun 17, 2008 8:28 am

Hi
I am playing the 1814 scenario as French, I was expecting Murat´s treason any moment, but it didn´t happen. I took a look to the setup file, and I found there is not such an event. That is weard. As you know, Murat changed sides in 1814, declaring war to France in February 15 1814, making Eugene position´s in Italy much more difficult. Currently that is not contemplated in the 1814 scenario, so it seems.

Indeed, it is not, because we lacked the time to move to this step...initially, the 1814 scenario did not include the southern part of Italy...so nothing was planned at all...then we added the southern part, but had no time (yet) to work out the treason...

This is to be treated like the Saxon's or Bavarian's turning camp in 1813... first step is to removed all the pro-French Neapolitans from the map...second is re-create a pro-Ally Neapolitan army...the trick is to handle the fact those troops may have moved to a location where it is difficult to tell in advance the position... :tournepas

The Neapolitan army barely moved before Murat´s treason, he was too busy dealing with the allies. IMO a quick way to fix that would be to have the Neapolitan army from the start in the Coalition side, but locked for several turns. There could be an informative event notifying Murat´s war declaration on France by mid February, with the units being unlocked by around mid March.

I have not played this scenario and I do not know what exactly happened with Murat to abandon Napoleon, so sorry if I say something wrong :innocent:

But if you play with the french side, and Murat and his neapolitan army are fixed and in the coalition side from the beginning, what is the point of adding the south of Italy in the scenario with Murat and his army, you cannot use it, at least before you could use Murat's army for some turns?

I suppose the idea is to lock Murat and his armies until the date he changed sides... and then release him and his Neapolitans to attack (or be attacked by) the french and allied troops in North Italy.
Sound good to me :cwboy:

Yes, I understand that, but I was talking about when you play with the french side, in 1814 Napoleon needs everything you can give, so a few turns with Murat...

And attack him! Is not enough with survive? :niark:

Besides you are letting Mr Thibaut escape too easily ;)
Just kidding

I have colected some ideas over General loyalty here:

As regard Murat and 1814 Campaign his major contribute was in favor of Coalition side: so, the idea of locking Murat and Naples forces, having them enjoying coalition side should work, for me!
