"The Eagle's Return" - 1815 Campaign mod

Sat Jul 12, 2008 10:50 am

Based over posted OOB:

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=9676

and lookinf at posted discussion:

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=9657

I'm going after a modded version of 1815-Last Flight of the Eagles.

I re-worked the starting deployement for French and Prussian forces.
All French Forces will be organized under direct control of Armee du Nord, HQ.
An unassigned HQ will be available in Armee du Nord stack for creating an indipendent command at player will: it simulate Grouchy detachment following Ligny battle.

I please mates that supported the discussion at:

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=9676

and

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=9657

to communicate me their e-mail box address, if they did not yet.

Soon I could e-mail the beta version for testing and evalutation to all interested ones........

..or you can contact me at

Why not upload it here, letting more people test and evaluate it? :)

In the reply page, you should find a button that lets you "Attach files"/"Manage attachments".

Playing 1815 scenario is matter of a hour, or even less: most of time the campaign gets resolved in the first 2-3 turns.

As regard portraits, you could send all of them to Ageod support team or any NCP developer.
If they will judge that worth they could add new portraits with next patch.

Have a request relative to 1815 Campaign.
I'm seeking a detailed OOB for the V KORPS of the Prussian Army of Lower Rhein, Kleist was commanding it. It was deployed in Luxemburg.
I guess it could be added to the modded campaign.

In 1815 Soult was rising a new army near Paris when Napoloen was defeated at Waterloo......This army could be added in August or September for active duty......more informations needed, too.

Fearing that Napoleon was going to strike him first, Blucher ordered this army to march north to join the rest of his own army.[59] The Prussian General Friedrich Graf Kleist von Nollendorf initially commanded this army before he fell ill on June 18th and was replaced by the Hessen-Kassel General Von Engelhardt.[59] Its composition in June was"[60]

Thanks

It's a good starting stuff!

I'll also look in my Boardgame collection: although there I get only Divisional level OOB.

The commander in Paris was Davout. A favorite French what if is what if he had been with l'Armee du Nord.
Having concentrated on the actual campaign, I dont have detailed information handy on the other French and Allied forces.

Going after ver. 1.02!

I'm working the Anglo-German Army LOC. I added the Ostende Depot: see top left corner in the picture.
Ostende Depot will be the main Anglo-German supply source: a Level 4 depot.
Antwerp & Bruxelles will be downgraded to level 2 Depots.
Wellington now will have a good reason to protect his LOC along the Ostende-Bruxelles axis.
Of course Ostende Depot will be garrisoned by Hannover Reserve units!

Soult was chief of staff in Nappy's Armee du Nord. Berthier had jumped, fallen or been pushed out of the upper story of a house window in Bamberg. (I'm sure it wasnt the Rauchbier that made him do it.)

Good job with Ostend!

The struggle to get Ostende on map was as hard as the fighting for the Grand Redoubt at Borodino, with many frustrating attempts failing :p leure: ....

At end here it is:

We have Ostende, its port, the depot, the fortress. :niark:

Down here is the Objective list, with Ostende enlisted:

I added Ostende Fortress, Port and Depot.
Re-worked Brugge region graphic.
Some minor changes to units starting positions.
Most Coalition Forces are locked in place in first game turn.
Hanoverian Res. Corps will start campaign in Ostende: it will be locked in place for first 3 turns.

Have fun!

Blucher also had nominal command of another formation: a North German “federal” corps. The Nord-deutsch Armeekorps – 15,000 troops commanded by General der Infanterie Friedrich-Heinrich, Graf Kleist von Nollendorf -- was composed of units from Hesse-Cassel, Mecklenburg, Anhalt and several other small German states. Kleist’s troops were not engaged in the Waterloo Campaign.

The Eagles's Return
(1815 Campaign mod ver 1.03)

It's down here available for download!!!! :sourcil:

With version 1.03 I have been able to create a separate installation for modded 1815 Campaign.

SOME FILES HAVE TO BE COPIED/PASTED OVER ORIGINAL NCP INSTALLATION FILE ANYWAY!!!!!

MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF ALL THE ORIGINAL FILES YOU ARE GOING TO PASTE OVER!!!!!

SEE README FILE FOR DETAILS!

The Eagles's Return, Belgium: June 1815 Campaign will be available as a separate, selectable Campaign, now. No more need to select the modded last Flight of the Eagles!

NOTE: I have updated the short scenery description for The Eagles's Return, June: 1815 Campaign for all supported languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian.
It was not hard in so far I just added Ostende in the list of Primary Objects for the campaign...... :mdr:

In French, German and Spanish language the campaign name will be anyway reported in English as The Eagles's Return - Belgium: June 1815

I'll be gratefull to anyone providing the exact translation of the full campaign name - The Eagles's Return: Belgium June 1815 - in FRENCH, GERMAN, SPANISH LANGUAGE.
......Please do not support me with any ITALIAN translation :siffle: .

Have fun!

Enjoy

Tested this great new scenario today and it was a lot harder than the original one.
I was totally crushed as France ( after a nice win at Charleroi Image ) and I needed quite some time and energy to crush Nappy as the Coalition. He won at Charleroi and then ... retreated after few turns back into France.
However there seems to be a small bug , Nappy has two HQs :
Image

I think you made a mistake in your readme. It seems that we need to backup files from \NCP\Graphics\Regions and not from NCP/Regions

Good luck with your scenario :coeurs:

I thank you for feedback Carnium!

At first, I'm happy to know You did not experienced crashes or stability troubles with "The Eagle's Return".

It also important you find the campaign challenging and "improved" in comparison to the default one.

Now, I'll check and correct troubles with readme file as you reported.

As regard the sencond, unassigned HQ unit in Napoleon Force is not a mistake: I added it as "Aile de l'Armee du Nord" to give Napoleon, -and French side players, in the game- the chance to create a separate indipendent Command during the campaign. That could recreate condition for Grouchy Persuite Force created on the Battlefield of Ligny to shadow the retreating Prussian Army.

I'm not sure "Aile de l'Armee du Nord" will be the proper name for it: may be Indipendent Column or Indipendent Command could better work......
I expect suggestion as regard, possibly with a French Name!

FRENCH GUARD CORPS CLARIFICATION!

I already evidenced the need to have Guard Commit Special Ability active for leaders commanding Guards Corps in NCP Campaign:

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=9656

I did not enabled it with "The Eagle's Return Campaign" yet , because of 1815 Sceneries peculiarity.
Here, French Guards Corps represent a meaningfull percentage of al French forces. 1815 sceneries are quikly decided by one or two battles in the early turns. It' s not a long term Campaign where having a good troops reserve in the later phases of the campaign can make difference for victory.

When under Command of Guard Commit Special Ability Leaders Guard Units are rarely and lately Committed to battles: Guards is most of time a spactator rather than a player in engagements.
That can alter the balance of forces in favour of Coalition Side.

Hope to receive feedbacks useful to clarify this point catching out the best solution.......

Napoleon's campaign plan

Wed Jul 16, 2008 11:06 pm

His plan envisaged a left wing, right wing and central reserve under himself. The composition of each wing might be altered as circumstances warranted. Ney only took command of the left wing on the 15th.

As such, historically there should be three army HQs. Given the scale of the scenario and map, it doesnt matter...any French player can easily put all Corps under Nappy's control.

But historical data there are AGEOD Game engine routine to consider.
The only way Corps supports each other, -see march to the sound of guns-, is when they are part of the same Army.
The subdivision of French forces between three armies create a severe handicap to the French side.

And I mean French side, not French player!
It's true the player could re-organize armies at will, but we have to keep mind of AI too: so what's when a Coalition gamer will play against French AI?
