Modding priorities: EVENTS!

Thu Aug 07, 2008 4:37 pm

I spent past 3 days over events modding.........
I shame to admit, but the only result is just one event edited: a changes into models for HQ units simulating occasional drop in HQ efficiency!

Events are a complex but important element in Ageod engine: although gamers have evidence of events occurance mainly when a pup-up message is triggered, events are always silently running and ruling sceneries.

The big trouble is the absence of a complete editing guideline dedicated to the subject.

1. As a starting point we should have at hand the full list of possible event-commands: with that we could at least search existing events file, (indeed I prefer to work with Excel NCP-DB files), for example of the event-command of interest.
If anyone has a trustable, updated list of events at hand is pleased to upload it!

2. In the second time it could be usefull to produce a detailed events Syntax guide. With that at hand we'll have no more need to search examples from existing sceneries.
Here a great experience in Ageod file editing is needed: hopefully if AGEod team members have sothing like that, may be for own use, are preased to post it!

3. Finally, a collection of full events, as excel files so to be copied/pasted into any event sheet we are working-on, then modulating/changing any parameter of interest.
This last step could be produced with mutual efforts from all editors & modders, but the event template has been extensively checked and tested before.

Hi Jasta,

It is rumored that some serious docs are being worked upon by someones... In the meantime, you can get help rapidly if you post your exact problem, with perhaps the screenshot showing your event in XLS format (or the attached XLS).

It is normal that you don't get help if you just ask for the solution that fix everything, this is human nature. You need to ask about the exact why of your problem and then someone will step in and help you. Just don't pass 2 days alone trying to get something to work, it is indeed fruitless as you see.
