Battle question

Hi
When theres an enemy army out in the field and i drag my armies onto it to attack it theres rarely a battle. Why is this?

Welcome to the forums.
It can be several things... can't know for sure with such little info you give :bonk:
Are you using an offensive posture (orange or red) for your forces?? if not you will not try to engage the enemy in most cases.
By dragging you stack over another you are ordering them to pursue the enemy stack, but if the enemy stack wants to avoid battle and/or moves away from the region the pursue may very well fail.
If they are several regions apart, its difficult to catch them unless they want to stand their ground and defend the region. Specially is the enemy is fast or sneaky (cavalry, cossacks, light troops) and your stack is big and pondering (maybe even dragging guns and supply carts).
Check the evasion and patrol values of the units and how the "evade fight" order works in the manual.
