This is a wonderful game although i find the battles somewhat anti-climatic as with all the details they happen very quickly with some grunts, crys, and
breif battle sounds. I would recommend a brief narrative that would occur
during the battle that would involve the interest of the player more. I will
show a simple example of what i mean. This is a meeting engagement between Mack (with D'Aspre as a subcommander) and Napoleon (with Ney
and Murat as subcommanders)
Napoleon encounters Mack
Mack attempts retreat....fails
Napoleon orders attack....strategic and tactical bonus
Ney orders attack...tactical bonus
Ney's infantry attacks...D'Aspree infantry defends
artillery fire...losses to Ney
Infantry combat....losses to D'Aspree..minor losses to both
Murat attacks...tactical bonus
Murat cavalry charges...horse artillery supports
D'Aspree inf forms square
D'Aspree has some squares broken...major losses
Napoleon orders artillery attack
Mack defends....substantial losses
Napoleon orders in the Guard Inf
Guard infantry attacks
Mack infantry defends...severe losses...Napoloen...minor losses
Napoleon orders in Guard Cavalry...tactial and strategic bonus
Guard cavalry flanks Mack
Guard cavalry attacks Mack
Mack inf forms square
Mack has some squares broken... major losses...prisoners taken
Mack attempts retreat...succeeds
combat concluded
This is a very simplified suggestion but would allow for more intersting combat other than just seeing the end results. again this is a superb game of the Napoleonic wars and i intend to enjoy it for years!
