Hi,

I have been trying to figure out for the last couple of hours what I am doing wrong.

I am just trying to mod Napoleon to 6,4,4 and Wellington 5,2,4.

I have made the changes but they never come out right, I have followed the instructions to the letter and have read all the posts.

So now I have gone back to the basics, and this is where my problem lies, I can just open a unmodified db models file and then save it using Open Office and this is what I get. I am saving exactly like its sayshttp://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=8127 but after running the splitter it does not come out the way it should. Something is wrong with the way I am saving it. :p leure:

Can anyone help please?

Thanks for youre time! :hat:

Hi hattrick!

What do you mean with "they never come out right" ? :cwboy:

The cvs file seems to be OK. To create the model files you need to chose the tab Convert Data in the CSV-Splitter and select mdl as output extension.

Hi Norbert,

Thanks for youre help!! :hat:

Ok well I put the models through the splitter, when I say they are messed up this is what I am refering to.

When you look, notice Napoleon's Attack and Defense ratings they are messed up.

Maybe my Database is corrupted, its begining to be the only possible solution.

What do you think?

Best Regards

Jeff

I think you can modify directly the .mdl file with a notpad, changing the stats as desired.
Not very professional but it works. :siffle:
I tried it on AACW and worked allright.

I exported the models from the DB files and can confirm your problem, so you did everything correct. (Not that I had any doubt. :p )
I think the problem is that some 'forbidden' characters are used in some columns of the DB which are used for comments. These columns start in the first line with an 'ยง' which prevents them from being exported by the CSV splitter. However if some control character like the semicolon is used in these, it might cause trouble.
So I would recommend to exclude these columns (= delete them) if you save as csv. These columns are: D, F, G, H, I, K, L (note that some might not be visible once you load the file, if the xls was saved with some filter settings on).
Good luck!

yes comments which are not entirely filled with either a real comment or a NULL will screw the export.

For very small modding, alter the .mdl file directly.

Hi -

Thankyou everyone for youre help and assistance. :hat:

I have decided to try the notepad route but am having some difficulty.

There are five Napoleons in the models folder and I have moded them all.

The problem is in some scenarios, the moded napoleon does not show up in all of them, in both the(17) Prussian Campaign and also the 1809 Danube campaign my moded Napoleons do not show up.

Why do they only show up in some and not all, the Danube one I could kinda understand because he comes in as a reinforcement. :8o:

So whats the solution to fix this?

I think that lowering the rating of Napoleon to 6-4-4 and Wellington to 5-2-4 will not solve the problem, since each point in those ratings is just a 5% increase in combat power. Probably the solution to avoid too onesided results in battle would be to reduce the number of abilities those leaders have.

Hi Aryaman,

You may be right, but lets see what effects this has first and then go from there.

I think reducing the combat rounds to 4 and then reducing the ratings of leaders with the Genius trate, will be a good start. We can go further if needed.

Question to anybody who might know?

When marching to the sound of the guns is it possible for them to arrive at different rounds or do they always arrive on the first one?

Best Regards

you can arrive at any round, this is a chance per round.

Hi!

Do you mean that the unit did not appear or that the values were not changed the way you intended?

Hi Norbert,

Thanks for youre help!! :hat:

I was refering to that the Napoleons that I had moded didnt show up but the original ones did. Like I changed all five of the Napoleons and yet in some scenarios the old one shows up with either a 6-6-6 or 6-5-5. WHile mine I changed to 6-4-4 5-3-4.

Not sure if this will matter at all but there is two model folders, _Models and the Models. I changed the numbers in both and still I do not get them to appear in the game.

I will try it again, thanks again!! :gardavou:

Ok tried it again, in the Danube scenario 1809 I get Napoleon 6-5-5 with these changes. Why?? What am I doing wrong?

You need to change the models only in \NCP\GameData\Models\, the folder \_Models is actually not needed.

I tried with the Danube scenario and your model files:
The model file 1516FRA_Model_Name_FRA_Napoleon4.mdl is used here. The values in the file are 6-4-4. Napoleon appears in the second turn on the map. If you check the experience bar in the unit detail window you will see that he hat 2 "experience stars". For every two of these a leader get +1 on his offensive and defensive ratings. So his rating goes up to 6-5-5. :cwboy:

Hi Jeff,

here is the event code from the file 1809 Campaign.sct

Code: Select all

Conditions
  MinDate = 1809/04/10
  MaxDate = 1809/10/31

Actions
  DescEvent = evt_desc_FRA_NapoleonArrives1809

SelectFaction = $F09
SelectRegion = $Strasbourg
  CreateGroup
  Posture = $Defensive
  SetKind = $Land
  Entranch = 0
  InCS = 0
  FixType = 0
  SetName = _genName
  Apply
  CreateUnit
  SetType = $uni_FRA_Napoleon4
  SetLevel = 2
  SetName = Napoleon Ier
  Apply
  ChangeFacMorale = 3

EndEvent

The command which changes the experience is SetLevel

And this is how it looks in the xls (note the yellow marked "2"):

Hi Nobert,

Thank you! thank you! :dada:

I am hoping this will be my last question, as I am sure you are also. :niark:

I have done everything you suggested and I have it working now, I just need to figure out how to remove the experience from the other scenarios with Napoleon.

The scenarios where Napoleon does not come in as a reinforcement. Where do I change the experience for them?

Cheers!

:p
No problem, this is what the forums are for. :)

To do this you have to work with the scenario setup files which come as xls.

For example the Prussian Campaign:
LGE_Setup_scenar_PrussianCampaign_1806-1807g.xls

You have to look where in this file Napoleon is added to the scenario:

Now you can change the experience level the same way as in the event files.

That done you need to export the xls as csv file and convert it via the CSV-Splitter into a script file. In a last step you need to start the edit mode to create the scenario.

A document how to do this can be found in the 'Needed files for modding' package here: http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=5358
(You need only to export the Setup tab, not necessary to export Events and Cities too.)
