Leader Casualties

As an experiment, I went to the combats.opt file and set the cbtLdrCasuDiceSides = 1. (the base setting is 500) I expected that this would cause all of the * rank leaders to be killed in the first battle, or that one * rank leader would die every battle.

That isn't what I found. Starting an 1862 campaign and mashing the army of the Potomac into the Confederates at Fredericksburg, I lost two leaders. I then mashed my army again into the Confederates at Culpepper, and I lost no leaders at all in the second battle. The Confederates lost no leaders in either battle.

I'm still confused as to what probabilities are used for leader loss, and how to use the cbtLdrCasuDiceSides factor to approach a realistic rate for leader loss in battle.

Were the leaders that got killed unattached in the stacks? In the 'nobody killed' battle, were they all division/corps commanders?

If so, the 'don't kill a leader with units' code is probably protecting them.....

That seems likely. If division commanders are immune from loss due to the bug that removes attached units, then a realistic setting is impossible.

Montgomery at Quebec, Lannes at Wagram, Reynolds at Gettysburg, etc. It would seem if no leaders die, promotion would also be difficult.
