Unit Description Tool-Tip

Tue May 15, 2007 3:09 am

While experimenting with leader bio stuff, found out that Unit tool-tips are functional.

Here are two very quick examples:
Signal Corps and Medics

They function the same as the leader bios, by tool-tips from the image in the Unit Detail box.

great, I'm waiting eagerly for the Belle Boyd tooltip.

PEGI rated us 3+ ... be wary of what you write ;)

How to:

First determine the tag for the Leader or Model (unit) you want.
Look in the AACW_DB_Models33.xls file from the database set Pocus put out.
Scroll to the desired Leader/Model.
Look in Column G "Text"
Example of a Model tag: $mdl_txt_USA_Inf1
Example of a Leader tag: $ldr_txt_USA_McClellan

When you have the correct tag, Copy it.

Now, open the LocalSettings_ACW.csv file. Be sure to save a copy of the file in another location first, just to be safe.
(C:\Program Files\AGEod's American Civil War\ACW\Settings)

Find the "Models/Leaders descriptions" section at the bottom of the file (row 2041 or so).

Paste your tag below // Models/Leaders descriptions;; in the first available row of Column A. Add a semi-colon ; after the tag.
Example: $ldr_txt_USA_McClellan;

Begin the bio immediately following the semi-colon.
Example: $ldr_txt_USA_McClellan;George Brinton McClellan:§-Born on December 3 1826, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, age 35§-West Point class 1846....

See that funny character §, it is used for new lines ("carriage return" in old typewriter speak).
In game the example above will look like:
George Brinton McClellan:
-Born on December 3 1826, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, age 35
-West Point class 1846

I had to copy and paste the § from within the file 'cause it isn't on my keyboard.

When you are done, save the LocalSettings_ACW.csv file, start the game and test.

Let me know how this works.
-------------
Note on the tool-tip.
A line can be roughly 80 characters long before it "wraps" to the next line.
I'll usually write the bio in Notepad, with the lines spaced out as they would appear in the game tool-tip.
Then add the § to the end of each line and compress it down to one very long line for use by the game engine.
Finally add the tag to the front and then paste it into the LocalSettings_ACW.csv

about the manipulations around the LocalSettings_ACW.csv... note that you don't have to do that, because when we will incorporate the bios, we will do the manipulation ourselves.

also the master file is the LocalSettings_ACW.xls file, which is exported to CSV with Excel.
