This could be done in theory, why not...you must then suggest which provinces to add...IIRC, there were not so many actions during the GNW in this part of Scandinavia, except around Trondheim ?

At the very end of the war, the Russians attacked in Finland ("the Great Wrath") and by the end of that, were trying to control the Swedish cities along the Gulf of Bothnia, Finland side. For obvious logistical reasons, the effectives were rather small, but I found a significant battle "out of the map" I never heard about before on wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Storkyro. Granted, the narrative for the last part of the part is usually - "and then, the Russians won". It would also allow slightly more freedom than just a pushing through the "Southern Finland corridor" for light troops / finnish troops.

Also, among all the wars between Sweden and Russia, or Sweden and Denmark, I would not be surprised if more campaigns happened up North.

Downloading now. Even without seing the map in question I'd say that a map originally intended for the early 19th century and now supposed to cover a large period if time would not work for the medieval period mostly because much of the territorial organisation was quite different, often very fragmented...

While I've drawn a rather large number of mps over time I'm not sure I'd be good for this project, mostly because I've often focused on hexagonal maps (I'd started some point to point maps and also som region maps like this, but for most conflicts and scales I was interested in they did not fit as well as a hexagonal map (one important exception would actually be medieval, but that would require something new entirely from scratch)...

Forgot. If someone needs free software to work on this project you might want to look up GIMP. I haven't really used it, but heard good things about it...

We would not use the map for Medieval themes anyway. As mentionned, time period is 1500+

We have a tool to have hexagons on the map if you are interested.

I can try to increase regions of Anatolia, but only if it is necessary. So will your campaigns include Anatolia?

Yes...if we want to make a Turkish Civil War game using the RUS engine, we would need them for sure

Wonderfull.
I have remembered reading next operational game in this map project shouldn't be as large as in ROP and RUS so it can be used in a global war game later. Is it still valid?
I have been thinking of 1919-22 Turkish War of Indepence where it can fully use RUS engine and foreign intervention which additionally can raise or get lower like in a mod done for RUS game in terms of foreign aid.
All can be done beautifully Great news.

There is a mod named Clio's Iron Heart for Hearts of Iron III, it isn't completed yet and probably never will but some countries' maps are completed and it can be useful for this project.

Germany: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?432659-Map-Discussion-Germany
France: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?433185-Map-Discussion-France

Mod's link: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?468-Clio-s-Iron-Heart

This might help for adding and naming new regions.

Very interesting indeed. Do you think you could contact the mod "lead" and ask him permission to use his work...or, better, ask him to have a look here ? :w00t:

If there is any help needed in map project, I will gladly do it.

Here is the very short music and the video of a film about Turkish offensive of M.Kemal started 26 august 1922 in 3:30 AM with cavalry deployment and the artillery open fire at 5:30 in the morning for great offensive.

Blimey, I was only thinking today you guys should try building a universal game base and you are. The Operational Art of War and Advanced Tactics were two attempts I know of.

This.

Any steps towards how to do it yourself or pimping your game editors would be great.

Best regards

I will take Portugal if it isn't already taken. See how I do and then expand further? If someone else wants to coordinate this please let me know! :) I love maps!

This is perfect job, exactly what I expected....bravo and thanks

As an important side note/remark, please take care at the way regions join each other...it should never be in a + or X form, i.e. adjoining through only 1 meetin point...as the engine is unable to 'read' adjacency through a single point (ex: in your proposal, e.g. the Lincoln/Leicester borders in England)

Excellent, I'll avoid one point borders from now on. I'm just going to work my way across Europe and complete the entire map. This is fun.

It will be the perfect map for a monster turn based game ( from 476 to 1066 AD) with a lot of playable factions. If only a kind of Database with rulers, generals, flags and some events could be find.

Italy, Greece, Africa, Israel/Iraq/Syria/Jordan/Kuwait, Finland complete. Germany, Denmark, Sweden, France next.
