This discussion has been spun off from a different discussion, since I'm interested in hearing what people think in general of how the modding forums best can be organized - Rafiki

It's a bit harsh, but the likelihood of it being caused by a problem with the mod warrants this approach to things :)

Mine may be mod related just noted that. Didn't realize it at first. On a side note for mods....would it be possible to create a subfolder within the mods folder for the big mods. Big meaning the ones with many pages and thousands of views. As these become more complex and issues emerge might help to have a place to post potential "mod bugs" as opposed to the already rather long active post. Just a thought, I have no idea how forums work so maybe I'm crazy. :bonk:

I'm afraid, I don't see how a new subforum with an "artificial" distinction between "big" and "not-so-big" mods would help?

I am interested, though, in hearing suggestions for making the forum work better both for the creators and the users of mods :)

Looking into into the actual potential issue, but on this note....
What I was thinking was that there are 3 mods (IIRC) that the thread is over 10 pages long. Thinking it might be handy, as they continue to grow, to be able to have a "subforum" not sure if that is right term. So that I could post this potential problem in there, outside of the main thread, also a thread that has the most up to date files etc... Just a thought and not an issue. (I ran into other mod, EU3 Magna Mundi, where it got so big the moderators just created a mini sub forum for it....that is where I get the idea as I was looking in it this weekend)

The modding community over at Paradox works a bit differently than ours, IMO. Over there, you e.g.. have a lot more people participating in making given mods, which generates a lot more communication between the makers of the mod and not just between the maker(s) and the users. Hereabouts, it's my impression that having a single (or a few) active thread(s) has worked pretty well, and the occasions when posts have been missed are fairly few.

However, it is my definite goal that the modding forums serve the purposes of both mod makers and mod users alike, so I'm definitely interested in hearing what people think of how we've generally been organizing things and how they think they can be better :)

To me, the issue is that the mod itself, with destriptions and updates, can get lost in the ensuing discussions and support questions.

A 'sub forum' to post threads with mod files with descriptions and update info only would be good, then a separate 'sub forum' with threads for open discussion and mod bug reports.

and yes, probably a moderator's nightmare....

Perhaps,

But couldn't you guys set up a locked forum, where no one can add new posts, and when someone wants to add a mod (like a zip file), and a description, they add it to ANY forum and then request an admin to move it to the locked mod forum?

I'd much rather have an open forum, but with specific guidlines for what can be uploaded there and how, then handle it whenever someone does something not warranted by the guidelines. People around here are well-behaved enough for that to be a lot less work, and also doesn't make things depend on the admins before they appear in the "right" place :)
