'Cheat Events for the AI'

Mon Oct 15, 2007 1:35 am

I have been toying with the AI, and have come accross a few possibilities to 'help' it at harder difficulty levels...

You can make events purely experienced either by the AI, or by human players, also, experienced only by a specific type of AI based on difficulty (i.e., an event that only triggers for Hard or Difficult AI, but not for Human players, Easy or Normal AI).

#1. Since creating my attrition events, I realize that the reverse could be true, instead of taking away 1 hit per turn (at a 30% chance) I could add a hit per turn (at a similar chance). While it won't rebuild a shattered force, it will offset some of the AI's moves into inhospitible ground, plus help replace losses more efficiently.

#2. Same can be done with Organization. Units get a % chance at improving organization. While this is not individually drastic, having a 30% chance that you get +5 organization in a unit that has 70 organization max will help build back organization (as the AI is in constant movement, and tends to be always low in organization).

#3. Supply and Ammunition levels. You can also increase supply and ammunition at random rates as well (so you cannot as easily cut off and destroy AI formations, since they are never 'completely' out of supply).

#4. National Morale boosts. Events can be in place to boost national morale (should it be creeping to very low levels) requiring players to win by having 200 morale, instead of dropping enemy morale to 30. For example, if the AI's national morale is less than 100, there may be a 10% chance that each turn it gets +10 NM.

#5. Free Commands. I am testing this in my mod, where there are AI events that when specific generals appear, they come attached to headquarters ready to command (while Human players only get the general and have to plan their headquarter construction, something the AI does not do as well).

I know people 'deplore' playing against an AI that cheats, but I think that some events can be developed to improve the AI's weaknesses, and its inability to plan as well as a human, by planning for it.
