Unit Differences

Sat Oct 18, 2008 5:11 pm

Hi chaps, I actually managed to get my WiA Pontiac scenario to load so I'm buying the drinks at the moment! Everything is starting to fall into place but I have one really daft question :-

I'm taking the 1755 scenario as my template but I can see no difference between the British uni_GBR_Inf3 and uni_GBR_inf4 units. Can anyone explain the difference? If I see it I may learn a few things I think.

I suppose the only way to know which sort of unit/model to use it through experience. If anyone can tell me why there is a unit file and a model file it would probably save me half an hour trying to understand this.

Many thanks, Chris

In the Units DB, look at columns M and N

Uni_GBR_Inf3 has 4 infantry models [elements]
Uni_GBR_Inf4 has 1 Grenadier and 3 infantry models [elements]

Models are 'companies', units are 'regiments'. Units are made up of 'companies'

In generall, all AGE engine hames use models as the 'buuilding blocks', and units as the 'things that you use in the game that use the building blocks'...

Confused? I wass for a LONG time.....
Always ask yourself: "Am I part of the Solution?" If you aren't, then you are part of the Problem!

The thing is I sort of had the unit/model idea as you have explained it in my head but I couldn't quite put it into words - I was hoping that by posting somebody else could do it for me. Many thanks as usual Lodi.

I'm confused by a lot of things but it is all falling into place. I'm hoping to be finished by Christmas! Craig is also inspiring me with his artwork - he just made me a wonderful Birchbark Canoe which I hope to make a new model with.

Cheers, Chris
