How are new BOA units created?

Just wondering..

I was attempting to create New York Grenadiers by using the blue coated ENG Grenadiers. I messed up and crashed the system!

Could someone direct me to the files, folders and lines that need to be changed/created that I need to create this unit?

Adding other units is just the same. The example files are not available anymore but the description might be nevertheless useful.
