Alternative: William Fortschen mod, where civil war troops go up against giant alien Mongol horse archers (I'm not joking).

I hate the alternate history novels of Harry Turtledove. They are to me a retelling of tales I have read before, in a less convincing way. They often seems to me a cheap way out for a writer with no idea's of his own.

Only work of him I really liked was the Toxic Spell Dump, where he takes the alternative history a step further.

I like the giant alien Mongol horse archers better A turtledove mod would be pretty cool though

Yeah they're just not very well written. Plus it's kind of embarrassing how he always sticks in a self-insertion (nerdy sci-fi/historian that has everyone telling him how brilliant and appreciated he is, and always has some woman falling all over him).

Who wouldn't love playing an AK-47 armed Confederacy though?
