Generals Graphics

Wed Jun 06, 2007 11:28 pm

Since Sandra is no longer around, I thought I would try to create a few of these, imitating her style as best I could. PhilThib & Pocus, have you hired a graphics designer yet? Are you looking to freelance this work out?

In the meantime - here are a couple freebies.

To insert them drop the Army pngs into:
\ACW\Graphics\Armies&Fleets

and the unit pngs into:
\ACW\Graphics\Units

then go to:
\ACW\GameData\Models

and find the correct .mdl file for that unit
(Keyes is 524, Wallace is 540; I don't know why but they each have an extra mdl file, ignore those)

edit with notepad so the portrait line looks like this:
Portrait = Unit_CSA_EDKeyes.png

and start the game.

enjoy!

Very nice :coeurs:
Forrest said something about killing a Yankee for each of his horses that they shot. In the last days of the war, Forrest had killed 30 of the enemy and had 30 horses shot from under him. In a brief but savage conflict, a Yankee soldier "saw glory for himself" with an opportunity to kill the famous Confederate General... Forrest killed the fellow. Making 31 Yankees personally killed, and 30 horses lost...

He remarked, "I ended the war a horse ahead."

Very nice, I see we worked from the same pictures.

I don't mind resizing and all, but coloring is just too much work... :siffle:

they are very good Jabberwock. They still have that little photographic rendering but are very close to what Sandra did. If we fail to have the graphics delivered by the freelance we contracted, I'll get back to you. In the meantime, everybody can enjoy your work by using your files :coeurs:

I quite agree. I'm really not happy with the Floyd. They all could use a little more work. But I said I'd have them done by Monday evening, and that's how they looked early Tuesday morning (EST). Anyone who would like to critique them on a detailed basis, please do. I will not be offended or hurt, I am inviting your input so I can improve.

Thanks Jabberwock - I really don't like the blank leaders and you are providing a very nice service to the community.

On the other hand, the title of your post for the new Confederate generals says 61 Confederates, but I only count 6. Where are the rest? :niark:

Jabberwock,

Excellent job :hat: :hat: :hat: !!!!

2 Questions :

In the zip file there are .mdl files
Do we just add them to the Models file & Reply 'Yes' to overwrite them?

I remember the first 2 pictures you provided us with, Wallace & Keyes. We had to open their respective file number & edit the portrait line.

The second question is will these pictures show up in a saved game or only when you start a new game.

Thanks,

Chamberlain

Either you edit the model files, or you overwrite them with the ones provided.

Loading a save game will work, but if you are playing by PBEM you may need your opponent to install the mod as well.

Catlord,

I changed the 2, Keyes & Wallace by editing the file.

I then loaded my saved game (1863 Campaign) & Wallace's picture is still not showing up. Keyes is not in this campaign so I cannot tell.

Thanks for the info on the Zip file.

I started a new game & Keye's picture is not showing up. I followed the above procedures. Any help?

Keyes and Wallace each have 2 mdl files. Are you sure you are editing the correct ones? 512 & 517 have no effect, 524 & 540 are correct. Sorry to repeat myself, but that was the most confusing part for me.

Hello Jabberwock,

I just doublechecked & I edited files 524 & 540. They jusyt do not show up.

When I dropped the files in my folders I remembered it put a 1 in brackets [1], after each name of the graphics :

Army_USA_EDKeyes[1].png
Army_USA_LLWallace[1].png
and
Unit_USA_LLWallace[1].png
Unit_USA_LLWallace[1].png

I removed the [1]'s & made sure they were all the same, which they are currently.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chamberlain

Yes [1] will prevent the mod to work.

Did you quit and restart AACW? That is when the graphics load. If you just went to the main screen and started a new game, they would not load.

Jabberwock,

I checked & re-checked everything.

Then I edited the 2nd file for both Keyes (512) & Wallace (517).

And guess what? :)

Their pictures show up in both new & saved game :bonk:

So, I have both files for Keyes (512 & 524) and Wallace (517 & 540) edited..

It is puzzling why I had to use 512 & 517. But oh well, the bottom line is that they appear.

Now to run the zip you provided for the South.

*** UPDATE On The Zip ***

**There were 2 Gustavus W. Smith .mdl files in the Models Folder. The zip was for 495 .mdl picture. I started new game, picture not there. I found his other .mdl at 481. I edited 481 also and his picture showed up. So once again, both files of the same General has to be edited, at least with my game. I have not tried only using the 481 edited without the 495. it works this way... ** :tournepas :tournepas

Again, awesome job with the pictures :hat:

Thanks,

Chamberlain

each file represents a leader at a certain level, so the game will either use 512 or 524 depending on the leader rank... Lets ask Jabberwock to make a new face for each rank of each leader, with correct insignia and mark of aging ;)

LOL

mb after '62 generals, and adressing issues with current pics (like fuzziness, photorealism) and some of the early generals I've missed like Bonham, Taliaferro, Sumner . . . and my AAR, and I want to try a PBEM, . . .

I see you included the .mdl file for the Confederates but not for the Union generals. Could you post a new zip with all of the necessary files for the Union side?

other generals

Fri Aug 03, 2007 11:00 pm

Let me know when the other years' generals are done.

@ Jabberwock, I have noticed during the csa army and unit pictures that some already existing photos are duplicate. In your game take a look at Jackson.png and RELee.png

Look familar don't they, almost the same right. I thought at first that the Jackson was for Stonewall but that one is TJJackson.png

so I looked up in Wikipedia and found out there was another Jackson, however that isn't the other Jackson. So if your doing new png files for generals you might want to review this one in the files.

Also take a look at the Pocus.png Is that a real confederate general or Pocus' beta test pic/avatar?
