Leaders,Small forces and Sieges

Thu Jul 03, 2008 7:46 pm

Many times I've seen AI Armies/Corps stop and lay siege to a town with only a wounded/locked leader or a supply wagon/small force in the city or town!

IMHO this should be changed, looked at or addressed.

There must be some way for the AI to determine if there are no troops or very few troops in a town. If a Leader is present then it is either killed/wounded or relocated. If only a small force is present , then a direct assault should be conducted.

Mind you In the campaign game the wounded leaders wont be much of an issue but I have seen it happen. As for a single Militia (without Artillery and low intrenchment) against a sizable corps, I figure it would capitulate in a day.

I noticed that in my latest game agaist Athena that she just ignored Wichester with its one militia garrison as I could move the other militia - I did.Athena just by passed it. I suppose one locked militia is no particular threat to her?

Strange yes, do you have the save and backup around Bigus, I need to understand why this faulty decision happened. She does check if an assault can be done.

Sadly I don't have a save. I think I might be able to recreate it though.
When I do I will send you the save.
I can't believe I'm the only one who has seen this though and I have seen it a number of times.

Edit: Here is a save from July Campaign. Stasburg in under siege by a Division.
There are only 2 leaders in the town.

Pocus I had to delete the backup files to get under the upload limit. If you need them I will send them to you via mediafire.

@ Pocus.....File sent.

After more testing I've seen the AI assault some towns with a single leader which was good . In some instances The AI will attack immediately and displace the leader (good) but other times it will besiege the lone leader(sometimes giving up after a turn or two???.....very very bad).

I think there should be an immediate attack especially if there are only leaders present in a city (they should be killed or wounded and displaced).

The AI sieges against single militia units or small forces seem O.K I think. It's the part about besieging a lone leader in a city that does'nt seem right.
