stop unplanned mergers

Too often, two corps are merged together in a region when i did not plan for them to be. can we ask if the player means to merge corps together?

I have often found that tropps outside a city have moved into the city when I did not mean for that to happen. This is a problem because they are less effective inside the city and I lose their fortification level when I move them out.

I know I'm posting a few today but I'm Retired and I play for 6-10 hours a day.

Right clicking on a stack's "tab" just above the unit display window across the bottom of the screen will "lock" that stack and prevent you from merging any other units with it.

As far as moving into cities and back out again...(if I understand you correctly)....if you have your game updated to version 1.10c. You should be able to drag in and out freely, keeping the highest entrenchment level attained.

Ctrl-L locks/unlocks all units for merging.

This unintentional merging actually helped me in my latest game. I sent one CSA Corp under Jackson to take out what I thought was a weakened Fed Army under Butler and sent EKSmiths Corp off against another Yanke Corps. If not for the merging then Jackson would have been wiped and his Corps destroyed by a much stronger opponent than I calculated? As i was EK SMiths Corp was destroyed but I won battle with huge casualties on both sides.
I put such under the choas attributed to the FOW

As the game is now, the only posibility you have is:

Save Game every 30 minuts or so.

If you do a big mistake (as that kind, losing all the 8 level trenches), then QUIT the game without SAVING, and LOAD the game again.

This way, the orders done AFTER the LAST SAVE are ok, you need to redo the last orders.

You gave me an idea, asking the designers to do somekind of AUTOSAVE, in a different FILE.

Yes, if the orders done have just been 10 minuts, it is better to reload the game .TRN and no problem....

but I was thinking on turns after 1863... Once all the map is plenty of troops, garrisons and so on, a turn can be hours long, reviewing and reviewing!

I was thinking about some kind of "autosave every 30 minuts", like those in use ---Word/Excel and the such--- while we are working on a long time work.

I myself dont use this kind of autosave, but for some people is a life saver.

Personally I loathe and detest the ability in the game to undo a complete move and replay it. I can never understand, for the life of me, why it was ever included in the game. I can see from a programmers point of view its very useful to test various options etc..... but when gaming all it does is allow you to cheat....and yes I do mean CHEAT. Undoing and redoing a move because you made a mistake is just that ....a cheat.

All IMHO :tournepas :tournepas

Thanks everyone for the advice but the lock solves the problem. Instead of reloading, I've just been separating the units by hand.

Gray the ability to hit the 'home' key on the load game screen I would suggest is going a wee bit further than restoring a saved game :innocent: and I cant think of any PC wargames I've enjoyed over the years that have enabled me to 'undo' a complete turn after its been processed. :tournepas

And before any 'smart alex' says it. No I dont use the facility just cant understand why it was included.

I cannot understand what is the problem here. :8o:
The wonderful restore turn feature is there. If you want to, you use it; if you don't, nobody is forcing you to hit "home" :tournepas
Is like the several difficulty levels and optional rules... each player can choose how to play his game.
It can be used to try different thing and see the results without starting the campaign over, to solve errors with the interface like the one boboneilltexas is posting about and, what the hell, to reload and try again if the Ai is whipping you and you want to try another tactic...
Wanting to force everybody to play with your high "ethic" standards is not the way to go.
Enjoy the game as you like an let the rest of the people do the same...

Oh dear Arsan. Of course each person plays any game how they wish and we each get enjoyment from different things. I was only ever expressing my opinion. Obviously its a minority one otherwise the facility would never have been included or removed long ago. I did also say that for developers I could see the value of it.

Seems I upset you in some way for which I apologise. Mind you I do object on two grounds to your comment that I want to force others to play with my high 'ethic' standards. Firstly because as much as anything I see nothing wrong in having high ethical standards in my life (and gaming is part of my life). I dont wish to force them upon anyone else....but neither am I going to apologise for holding them. Secondly, by all means have a go at my post but please keep it on a less personal level.

Hi!

First, sorry if i sounded "too personal"... i had a bad morning at work and besides, this is not my first language so its difficult for me to express some things adequately :siffle:

Second, thumbs up for your high ethics in life and play...

but IMHO this is no reason to bash the game for having an option as standard on all video games as "saving and reloading".
Saying that you "loathe and detest" and "can never understand, for the life of me, why it was ever included in the game" and that you "cant think of any PC wargames I've enjoyed over the years" with a function as standard as this seems a little heavy handed to me and quite unfair with AACW.
Specially as this is and optional feature and a very handy one, for newbies, veterans, developers and "cheaters" alike.
Having this feature does not impede you to play the game as you like.
Not having this feature (as seems you would like to) will impede a lot of people to play the game as they like...
All lose, no gain IMHO

I'm sure Gray and Arsan you are both right about the loss of players if the feature was not available. In fact, as I was mulling it over this afternoon I realise that I was having a 'senior' moment :p apy: and was totally wide of the mark with my assertion that other computer wargames do not allow you to undo complete moves. If I really think about it any game with any sort of 'save game' feature allows you to go back as it were. :tournepas

My only (weak) defense is that I never use save game features except to wind up for that particular gaming session and an 'automatic' rewind so to speak goes against the grain, even more so in PBEM mode which is the only way I play.

And whilst I'd accept Arsan that often I can be too critical, particularly as I think the game overall is excellent, its still got some way to go before its the best thing since sliced bread. Perhaps that will come with ACCW2
