Slow Start Up Time

Sun May 18, 2008 12:54 pm

Very ...

I mentioned, in the Patch Thread, that turn resolution was slower. Franciscus mentioned it may be because of the improved AI. OK. I can buy that.

But, it takes forever for the game to load ever since the 1.10 beta patches.

I am running Windows Vista SP1 with a fresh install of Patch 1.10a. The game takes between 10-15 minutes - literally - to load up. This was not the case before 1.10.

I have 4 Gigs of Ram on my machine.

didn't noticed that. AACW is launching with 2giga of Ram in one to two minutes.

I haven't noticed a change either. I have 1 GB of RAM; the game loads in maybe a minute? Maybe a little more, I don't stopwatch this, I just go get a beer. :cwboy:

15 minutes!! ouch! :p leure:
It takes a while to load in my old machine (Pentium 4 2.8 1 GB RAM) maybe 4 minutes or so... but it takes this long since the 1.00 version.
I had not noticed any changes on this with the latest patches :bonk:
Maybe you installed some thing new on your PC that slows it down (new antivirus or something) ??
Perhaps you could do a second installation with 1.09 patch and see if it loads faster now or is also slow. This way you could know if its something caused by 1.10 patch or some problem on you PC...

Regards

I think u could have a prob with your computer Rich. It does take a lot to load the textures but not that much, just a couple of minutes. try alt-tabbing and seeing if there's some other prog running in background.

Yes, there is indeed no reason why the game should load slower than before. :cwboy:

With Windows, I *always* reboot before launching any game. It helps to flush the cr*p out of the system.

Beyond that, there are all sorts of malignant things that could cause a system slowdown. Do you run software for anti-virus, anti-malware, etc.?

goes offline, then disabled anti vir, firewall, anti spyware, cybernany and cyberpapy, cybernurse and anti-malware, adware, wareware and such.

then try again. If it changes something, then it's not AACW the culprit.

BTW, I also reboot before every game session to help eliminate conflicts with prior cr*p freezing or crashing the game and/or system. It's not just about speed, although that too is an issue.

AACW does seem to appreciate a reboot, coincidently I had a problem with slow (more like static) loading today and a reboot helped.

I think you should always reboot after an installation or repatch I often get things like missing music or text until I do so.

I'm a re-booter from way back. Fixes many issues. Not this one for me. I keep my system pretty clean; don't really know why this has been happening, but judging from these responses, I'll have to assume that it is not the patch version.

I'll just keep tinkering .... the game itself runs fine, albeit a little slower in turn resolution than it had been.

Just want to confirm, absolutely, that this slow start-up was NOT caused by the game. I guess everybody already knew that, but me! :) After running a good registry cleaner [RegCure], my system is nearly as good as new - and Ageod's ACW loads up promptly once again!! [Patch 1.10c]

Just wanted to clarify -- didn't want the game to receive any bad reps!
