In my game Holmes corps is in a neighbouring province from Alexandria (VA). During the turn - 2 other corps take Alexandria and during the next turn it seems that Holmes corps has taken the "captured artillery pieces", while it never had even entered Alexandria ?

Holmes Corp could have still been in the battle, he could have marched to the
sound of guns.

mike,
how can Holmes take the pieces if his corps didn't enter Alexandria (read my first post)?

He could have taken part, marching to the sound of guns means you move into the battle, then move back to your original spot. So, afterwards it looks like the unit stayed put, but it actually did move and engage into combat (sometimes it won't even take casualties, so the unit really appears to have been stationary the entire time). That's what mike was alluding to the possibility of.

IIRC, the log will say whether or not anyone marched to the sound of any guns.

that's a good catch, will check the log in the future to be sure ... thanks

The other bug is that a unit that has marched to the sound of the guns, and marched back, can capture immobile pieces.
I've ended up wondering why my army headquarters suddenly couldn't move -- it was because they'd captured (and teleported to their original location) the fixed guns of a garrison.
I have reported this bug, and assume it will be fixed in the next patch.

Where can one find this "log" of battles?

I'm unsure that it will be fixed in the next patch, as there is no simple solution to what you see. Every rule behaved as expected: you marched to the sound of guns and captured some artilleries. The modification would be to leave in place captured non mobile artilleries, but this need some work and for now I'm concentrating on some others things for the next update.

It's the message log that you see in the bottom of the screen whenever you haven't selected any units.
