1.14x code patch with AI improvements inside!

Tue Sep 29, 2009 3:25 pm

Hi,

An important bug has been found in the AI which reduced its efficiency since early July roughly.
Also, several fine tuning has been done to it, since the start of September, thanks to the VGN project (not everything can be backported in AACW from VGN, AI wise though).

So, people interested in getting a primer on "improved Athena" can download one of these files:

For people wanting the latest full Comprehensive patch (which don't include 1.14e code improvements):

Latest comprehensive official patch to date (v1.14d) (contains the Map/database changes listed below)
http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/latest/AACW_Patch.zip

Latest code to date 1.14f (new AI test game engine, executable only)
=> see post #38 (also see attachment below for an installer version)

To revert to the previous executable (will revert you to 1.14d) (same as contained in the full comprehensive patch above:

http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/temp/patch_AACW_v1.14d_(.exe_only).zip

edit (from Gray_Lensman)> The reason for the 2 (.exe only) installers above is to make it easy to switch from one version to the other (for testing the AI) without having to reinstall the entire v1.14d comprehensive beta patch again.

Map / Database
================================================== ========================
(Work led by AACW Coordinator Gray_Lensman).

1.) Bombardment Button Tooltip reworked to properly describe the Button action and the Button action is:
a.) If the Button is Depressed = Bombardment is selected and the Tooltip states "Your units have orders to bombard any passing ships."
b.) If the Button is NOT Depressed = Bombardment is NOT selected and the Tooltip states "Click to Bombard passing ships with your units."

2.) Reworked graphic glitch in the "Winter_563Montgomery, TN.bmp" (Nashville graphic) file.

3.) The structure for Rome, GA located in the Floyd, GA region has been shifted slightly northward.

4.) The CmdCost of all affected units have been reworked back to their previous v1.13b values.
================================================== ========================

New AACW.exe v1.14f (installer version):

Got it ! :)

Now, all I have to do is get a few more vacation days... :D

(PS: A little clarification please: The latest "official" patch is 1.14c. The full patch here is also 1.14c Is it a typo the reference to a 1.14d in the "reverse exe" ?? :confused :)

just about to test out patch.
I've heard that WIA is going to get the similiar treatment. Any chance of these fixes going towards NCP?

I can only handle the code part, so yes I can put up a NCP test executable, but this won't be a comprehensive patch and this won't fix historical glitches reported since some months.

I've some problems with 1.14e:

i can't form divisions. Tryed different scenarios, the forming divions button is always grey.

and a minor thing: the flags in the objectives menu are not on the right place (see screenshot)

Matin, you have to detach your leader from the cav brigade he is attached to.
Not sure why your other leaders didn't unless you picked others that are attached too.

that wasn't the problem. I know the game rules, and i wasn't able to form any division, never, in no scenario after installing 1.14e.

The strange thing is, that now, after i simply restartet the game, it suddenly works again...don't know if it has something to do with 1.14e or if it was just by chance..

Matin, are you experiencing this after October 1, 1861? 1.14 doesn't allow division formation till then. From the release notes: "Restricted Divisional Formation until after 1861/10/01."

Nono, to make it more clearer:
I played the game this morning, could form divisions, then installed 1.14e, then started the game again, then suddenly wasn't able to form divisions with the same savegame. Then i loaded several other savegames, tried szenarios (of course later ones, cause like you said divisions are not available at the beginning), and i never was able to form divisions. So i thought it was a bug. But after restarting the game, the division option is now available again. Maybe an error occured and it was just chance that i installed the patch before, like Gray Lensman says.

Sometimes, odd things can happen with saved games played with an overlaid installation. (Overlaid = New Patch over the top of the older installation instead of a brand new installation).

not yet, but if more strange things happen i will do that :)

edit: ok, now it's time for a brand new installation. the game ALWAYS crashes when i go to the replacement screen.

ok, after a new installation everything works again. i can form divisions, the flags are on their right place, and i can use the replacement screen.

next time i will first reinstall the game before i think it's a bug..

Pocus, Gray and Co.

Is this the thread you would like feedback on 1.14d and 1.14e to be posted to? A central location might make it less time consuming for those reading the testers' reports.

I've done a clean install of 1.14e, and re-read the updates doc to orient myself on all the various design and other game changes to avoid making erroneous bug reports - at least I'll try my best :) .

Does "d" and/or "e" include the database corrections of the QuickFixes, thus no need to install the latter?

[Apologies if I'm not reading things carefully enough.]

I'm getting crashes in the e version. Same as the poster above. I go to the replacement screen, and it says the game has some errors, and is stalling. Dumps me to desktop. I did apply e over the basic game, so I'm installing a clean version again.

I know I need to give y'all some files, but you'll have to tell me how to do that again, I've forgotten....

I had it dump me to the desktop while processing a turn. Something about it detected an error and it ended.

I restarted and used the resume game button. Hasn't crashed since.

So, after re-installing the game, I came back here to download 1.14d...and the link doesn't work.

Any help?

Unless I can just use the second one, that says it reverts you back to d.

That one's working, I just don't know if it's missing anything.

I did a fresh install, the 1.14d, and the 1.15 exe. It just locks up at the first battle.

EDIT: Thought I'd try something. Up by Louisville, I had a gunboat by ASJ. I moved the boat, and the turn ran through. Very strange.

My bad... I meant 1.14e.
