"You have enough naval combat units ..."

Mon Mar 02, 2009 8:15 pm

Could this message include the actual number of units needed to blockade the zone? It's fine to know that I have enough, but just as often I want to know how many I can move away safely and still have enough to blockade the zone.

It would need nothing except adding something like

"You have enough naval combat units (4 needed) to blockade this zone."

I am pretty sure that the tool-tip tells you how many you need prior to moving into the zone.

If it's true like you say that it is not listed once you are in place, then that would be a nice addition to the tip.

Maybe for now just jot it down? (Or, as long as you are playing the ai, just move the whole fleet away and resolve the turn. Then check how many elements are required, reload the turn and leave that many when you separate your stack(s).

It's always the same for what i know:
8 combat element per seazone
+ 4 more if there is an adjacent enemy fort
-4 if its you the one who have an adjacent fort

I thought it ought to be easy ... but I have numerous (coastal) see zones that seem to require only 4.

Oh wait, that could be my forts off Pensacola and Mobile ... I'll check.

In any case, since the game is so kind to tell me the required amount anyway, it could just as soon also tell me even though I actually have enough units there. :)

That makes sense. :cwboy:

What do you think of my suggestion to show the required number even though enough units are there?

It's pretty easy anyhow... It's 4 if there are no enemy forts nearby to affect the calculation otherwise it's 8. Pretty much pure and simple.

Emplaced artillery increases the requirement.

The base requirement seems to be 8 naval elements on rivers and coastal areas.

Forts or entrenched troops (level 3+) with artillery will change this by +4 or -4 (for a minimum of 4 maximum of 12 I think).

There do seem to be some anomalies - starting campaign #6 1862 Struggle for the Heartland as the Union, for instance...

Union need 4 to blockade Augustine Bay (Union Fort Marion), but only 4 for the next coast area northwards, St John Estuary. Should be 8?

CSN need 12 for Pamlico Bay and Ocracoke Inlet (Union Fort Morgan) but only 8 for Pamlico Sound and Hatteras Inlet (Union Fort Clark) and there is no rating at all given for Cape Hatteras (note the names here are coastal region names, not the names written into the map graphics).

Hard to see which forts dominate which water areas, if (as with Fort Clark) they do at all.

I don't understand why i can't blockade James Estuary as USA with 10 naval elements. The game says that i need 2 elements more. Why ? Normally 8 elements should be sufficient, there is no CSA fort here.

I have got :

- 2 brigs,
- 2 blockade ships,
- 4 steam frigates,
- 2 frigates.

10 elements > 8.

Need your help, please !!! Thx !
