Event name error

Wed Sep 10, 2008 6:27 am

Huge apologies if this is the wrong place for this, or it has already been reported.

Using 1.11a patch, playing Confederates.

An event fired in mid-61 to give a Texas Ranger Brigade. The Brigade did appear but the actual text for the event in the message list seemed to be the actual name of the event in the code and not the event itself.

Nope, this is the right place; thanks for helping out :)

Do you remember the text in the message list said?

Hey Rafiki,

now there's a familiar wiki monkey from Hearts of Iron days.... ;)

The actual text looked like the event name as written in the script. Something like 'scr-event TexasRangerBrigade' or something along those lines. Fired in early June-ish.

Sorry, I'll be more precise in future and jot things down to make it easier for the bughunters.

All the best,

Zeb

Always nice to see familiar faces :)

No worries, should still be possible to track it down :)

The text of the event reads:

ext_nam_CSA_TexasRgrBde

Hope that helps a little more than my vague initial post :)

-----

Couple of other things, which may or may not have been spotted and may or may not be errors (I have a saved game which has all of these things in it). Please forgive me if I'm reporting old news or this isn't the right place to list them:

In Stonewall's Brigade, there's an infantry regiment called 4th Virgnia. I think it should be 4th Virginia (?).

I've currently counted 2 1st Virginia Cavalry regiments all in existance at the same time (not including the brigade formation which would make for 3 1st Virginias in the same place at the same time!). Looking at the regiments, it seems they are different (ie different types of cavalry with different stats). Was there no other identifier (eg 1st Virginia Dragoons) used if all these units did proclaim to be 1st? Or if the problem is ahistoric unit names, perhaps company names could be used instead or in addition to the 1st?

There's something odd with the Sumter Squadron. It seems to not rise above 9/15 'health' even when in a level 5 port. Is there something I'm missing with this?

All the best,

Zeb

(PS this is with a fresh install of a fresh download and no problems whatsoever with glitches - I'm using 1.11a from the link in Pocus sig and I'm truly praying that I no longer have corruption issues... at least with the game anyways ;) ).

Hi Gray,

re. Sumter Sq. Checking again, the harbour is Charleston and I only noticed because I was going to put it in the same stack as a badly beat up squadron of frigates which have long sailed after being repaired. It looks like some kind of tooltip bug rather than a bug with the actual 'repairs' mechanic now I've had more of a play with it. The squadron itself is saying that it's on full health, the tooltip is less sure for some reason.

Image

I'm in the unfortunate 'n00b bug report' stage I'm afraid, when I have no idea what is a bug which needs fixing and what is a known issue. Wheat from the chaff and all that ;)

Gray_Lensman wrote:On first glance now that you have provided the "text", it appears to possibly be a typo that might be causing the problem. I'll look into it. Almost all events are "evt_nam_..." not "ext_nam_..." It's probably named "evt_nam..." in the LocalStrings file, but the event description itself had the typo "ext_nam_..." in it by accident.

The Georgia brigade event also seems to be having similar issues returning a message of 'evt_nam_CSA_GeorgiaBde'.

That said, the events do fire correctly and the units do arrive. It seems solely to be something to do with how the event text is being reported in the message log.
