For PhilThib: A WIP of Events for a 1783-1811 Campaign

Please take a look at some of the Info I have compiled thus far. I am working on the events right now, but am also gathering Portraits, Commanders, OOBs and unit names.

1783-1811 Campaign

EVENTS:

1783: April, End of hostilities between America and Great Britain.

November 2, General Washington’s Farewell Speech.

November 25, the British evacuated New York City, and Washington and the governor took possession.

December 4, Washington formally bade his officers farewell.

December 23, Washington resigned his commission as commander-in-chief


1784: June 2, Congress Disbands the Continental Army. A garrison of Artillery is left at West Point and a garrison of Infantry is left at Fort Pitt.

June 3, Congress authorizes 700 new troops for defense of Northwest Frontier. 8 companies of Infantry and 2 companies of artillery are raised in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. This is the First American Regiment. Colonel Joshua Harmar Commands.

1785: April 12, Congress authorizes the raising of troops for a 3 year enlistment.

The Northwest Indian War (1785–1795)

1786: August 29, Shay’s Rebellion. Rebel Uprising in Western Massachusetts. Massachusetts Forms a Massachusetts Militia Regiment to combat the rebellion. Defends Springfield Armory. Shay’s Army numbers about 800 men.

October 20, Congress Raises a Legionary Corps to combat Rebels. 2,040 troops raised. Consists of 1 Battalion of Artillery, 2 Troops of Dragoons, 1 Battalion of Rifles, 3 Regiments of Infantry.

Fall, Colonel Benjamin Logan leads a force of US Regulars and Mounted Kentucky Militia against Shawnee Indians in the Ohio.

1787: January 30, War Department issues uniform regulations for new Legionary Corps.

February 3, Shay’s Army and the Massachusetts Militia battle at Springfield Armory.

May 25, Constitutional Convention.

September 17, Constitution Created.

July 13, Northwest Ordinance passes. Northwest Territory Settled. Huge number of settlers into the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes Region.

1788: June 21, Constitution Ratified.

1789: April 30, George Washington is the First US President.

1790: August 4, Revenue Service Formed with 10 Cutters to protect US Coastline.

October 7, General Harmar leads a force of 352 Regulars and 1,133 Kentucky and Pennsylvania Militia into the Ohio Country. The campaign was launched from Fort Washington (Cincinnati) in the southwestern Ohio Territory.

October 22, Col. John Hardin leads a force of 600 men and encounters a force of 1,050 Shawnee and Miami Warriors. Bloody battle follows.

October, Harmar’s Force is defeated by Shawnee and Miami Indians.

1791: January 2, Big Bottom massacre. Delaware and Wyandot Indians surprised a new settlement on the Muskingum River, stormed the blockhouse and killed eleven men, one woman, and two children. Three settlers were captured while four others escaped into the woods.

March 3, Congress raises a Second Infantry Regiment. Congress also raises a force of 2,000 Levies for a 6 Month Enlistment.

Summer, Kentucky Militia Battles Indians in the Wabash.

November 3, Major General Arthur St. Clair leads a force of 1,400 Regulars, Levies, and Militia. He is Defeated by Indians numbering up to 1,500. He loses over 600 men killed and 300 wounded.

1792:March 5, Congress Raises an additional 3 Infantry Regiments and a Troop of Dragoons.

December 27, The Legion of the United States is Formed. Major General Anthony Wayne in Command. It Consists of 4 Sub Legions, each one made up of 3 Battalions of Infantry, 1 Battalion of Rifles, 1 Troop of Dragoons, and 1 Company of Artillery.

1794: March 27, Naval Act of 1794. 6 Frigates to be constructed.

May 9, Congress Creates the “Corps of Artillerists and Engineers” Consisting of 4 Battalions of 10 companies each.

Summer, Whiskey Rebellion in Pennsylvania. A militia force of 12,950 men was organized, roughly the size of the entire army in the Revolutionary War. The troops were mostly Pennsylvania and Virginia Militias. Under the personal command of General Washington, Alexander Hamilton and Revolutionary War hero General Henry "Lighthorse Harry" Lee, the army assembled in Harrisburg and marched into western Pennsylvania (to what is now Monongahela) in October of 1794.

1796: May 10, USS United States Launched in Philadelphia. Captain John Barry in command.

1797: September 7, USS Constellation. Captain Thomas Truxtun.

1799: February 9, USS Constellation vs. L'Insurgente.

1800: February, USS Constellation vs. La Vengeance.

1807: Embargo Act of 1807, which outlawed nearly all European trade, import and export, through American ports. The Act was enforced until it was repealed in 1810.
