Is there any provision in this game to coordinate an attack on a besieging enemy force, by a relieving army attacking coordinated with an attack out of the fort by the friendly garrison?
Thanks.

Sure. There is a special order for that. Select the besieged army, and move the mouse over the icon with an arrow getting out of a city. This is what you need.

Thanks Pocus. Let me get this straight: If I click on the sortie arrow for the besieged units, they will do nothing until a friendly relieving army attacks the besiegers, and then they will attack out?

NO! They will attack out immediately. YOU have to coordinate matters by making sure the relieving force arrives in the same turn your garrison sorties.
At least, I think that's right...

The easy part is having the relieving army reach the area with the besieged town in the same turn. The hard part is having them reach the area on day X and having the besieged attack out on day X as well (or do they make a coordinated attack on day 30 - which is fine by me).

unless there is a bug, if worked like that the last time I checked: they will wait behind the wall until one of your army with a offensive/assault posture comes in the same region, then they will sortie. There is no delay to set or calculate, it should work when automatically.

But what if you want your garrison to sortie and there is no relieving force? How does the garrison know whether to wait or not?

You just drag the guys inside the town out in offensive posture and they will attack.

Ah, I see. If you don't manually drag your garrison out to attack, they will wait until a friendly force is also in the vicinity and then make the sortie in conjunction with the relieving force. Thanks, I haven't relieved a city/fort yet.
