Great so far!

Fri Feb 24, 2006 6:30 am

I just ran through the tutorial, and then tried a few turns of the 1775 scenario as the US side. I got bottled up in Providence right away. The AI seems good, and particularly agressive at the default setting-very nice. The graphics are really superb. They have a great stylistic sensability to them that is often ignored in wargame design, and it works very well here. The interface is pretty straightforward, and I'm going to try a smaller scenario now to get a better handle on it.

So far, so good! Well done.

In 1775 you should be really prudent with the Americans, as the English will receive important renforcements. Also make sure that your armies are in the right posture: if you want to benefit from the ground, then use a defensive posture, in forest and entranched :)

If you are in agressive posture, you will engage any redcoats in the region, but you wont have any defensive benefit. Your choice!

Downloaded Feb 23

Played the tutorial Twice ... 1st time I was really lost... 2nd time much better. When the manual comes I hope to learn much more.

Game plays great ... this is more than a Beer and Pretzel game ... alot of strategy involved in this

Comment on Battles -- I wish there was something that would show on the screen immediately after a battle. Right now I look in the box at the bottom and its highlighted - I double click on the RED sentence to see the results. How about an OPTION to have that screen appear immediately after a battle.

Map looks great ... Sound is good ... moving troops easy and info is available

Glad I made this purchase ... hope to get into it more this weekend

:indien:
Thanks

That sounds good. It sounds like what I was hoping for.

"I wish there was something that would show on the screen immediately after a battle."

Absolutely agree. This is my only problem with the way the game plays out at this point. It disturbs the flow of play as it is.

we have our own agenda on "what to put, in additional content, in the next update", knowing that bugs are always a priority, but if you are several to ask for something, then there is a big chance that we will try to add the feature.

That being said, doing what you ask is somehow heavy, speaking of coding time, so we have to be sure its really a big plus, and anyway it will means that several minor features will be postponed.

To summarize, we are reading all suggestions, but we have to choose which ones will be done.

Downloaded easy, and installed with no problem.

The manual in the documents section is decent. A few minor translation errors (and a few "et's" that didn't make it to "and's"). But, bottom line, the documentation explains things well enough to play the game.

Tried 1775 scenario. Looks great and plays well. I had a little problem with stacks and manipulating them, but I got the hang of it. Battle results in real time or at the end is no big deal to me; you can't influence things once the engagement happens anyway. Question: are battle losses shown in terms of companies? What does it mean when you have lost "3?" What does it mean when you lose 13 due to attrition? Is that companies, battalions, men?

Only problem to date is two crashes. I think I know why, but here is the log:

3:37:30 PM [Critical ] TGameSim.ExportData Exception caught, RenderStep: Prep'ing Slave MapBack.bmp Violation d'accès à l'adresse 0048938D dans le module 'BoA.exe'. Lecture de l'adresse 00000030

I was playing (errrr....I mean evaluating new software) at work. One of several programs running must have stepped on the game.

Not a bug, as in the software isn't broken, but a sorely missing feature. The game apparently does not disable the screen saver. It needs to. If your screen saver comes up -- like mine did when I eventually had to eat and perform diaper duty to keep the wife at bay -- the game had the same fatal error.

Very happy with the game so far. I have played the demo twice and the Carolinas scenario twice - and I lost one and won the other.

Agree with Benpark on graphics and such - very good design and clean interface. My mouse is a little sluggish, but not too bad.

Looking forward to the package arriving with the manual!

Yes, and there's 3 nice Word docs for leaders, units and such.

The game is impressive so far. Played the tutorial and a few turns of the 1756 Champlain scenario to get a feel of the game and I really enjoy it. Nice graphics also. Now it's time to read the manuals though :siffle:

Please also note that additional features should come in the next patches, once the known bugs (very few so far) have been fixed.
