What was the logic behind the decision to set MC to 5% when a force enters and is changed to OP?

This has gotten completely silly. We started out with no auto-OP. You moved a large force into a region with a large enemy force entrenched and held a Mexican stand-off. In reality you don't move your force into the proximity of an enemy force, unless you intend to attack it. Mexican stand-offs are...

If in a way the first 5% are free...and the attacker assumes a defensive stance while retreating locally and keeps his 5%... I rather like the idea of a stack staying in region unless the enemy is in an offensive stance. It would allow for more contested regions, you could build up for a breakthrou...

Pocus wrote:This should be the case, you get a minimum 5% upon entering a region.

The issues isn't whether you have 5% upon entering. It is that you lose it and then stay with the new retreat logic. To fix the issue, if a force is in the region, they would need to not drop below 5%.

I can confirm you never gain MC. McDowell was in Manassas for three turns, MC always stayed at zero.

Thinking out loud, I believe a potentially very logical change that would address it would be to only automatically change a force into Offensive mode due to MC levels if the are entering an enemy controlled region. They can stay on other postures if already in the region or leaving the region.

Yes, I suspect the issue is less with the retreat change and more with MC never changing above 0 and thus, causing a cycle of unwanted battles.

Ok. One, but commanders choice. Current issue provides no choice. Just keeps attacking.

As I've noted elsewhere, I definitely think there is something not working correctly, and I am guessing a combination of two things. This is with RC3. 1. Lack of a force, especially a force of equal size, not retreating out of a region after losing battle seems to be an issue. However, this might no...

Well I can't be sure about what is happening without a bit more info. My suspicion is that he is still in the same region because the number of days it takes to march out exceeded the number of days left in the turn. If you want to really make sure he does not engage, set the stack to passive and e...

In opening moves, Jackon's brigade got ripped apart while taking Harper's Ferry. Of course, it's all elite elements. Turns later, it's still decimated. Will I have to purchase replacement points, or if I move him back to a depot and go g/g, will they eventually refill over time (so that I can then ...

I have been seeing similar behavior in my game. Seems to be affecting only the enemy stacks [AI]. They will park near my force and repeatedly attack - turn after turn - even though I am entrenched, forces are at least 1:1, and we are fully supplied. My forces have retreated at times pretty normally...

But they were in different regions. Any instances where they attacked the same entrenched units over and over. Grant's campaign was a constant move-attack.

Thanks. That confirms what I suspected. Using "Advanced" negates the guarantee that a leader will be activated via scripts. Improves the likelihood, but no longer guaranteed.

Anecdotal and not intended to be an answer: Playing as Union against Athena in mid-62. End run on Richmond and have it under siege. Captain_Orso wrote:Yes, this is correct. If a stack not in Passive Posture has =<5% MC in a region it will automatically go to Offensive Posture.

So the way to withdraw is to put yourself in passive and hope they do not attack.

Captain Orso,

I am saying the MC of 0 seems to be causing the force to switch to "Offensive" posture and attack. I have the force in the region set to "Defensive...Retreat" and Evade Combat, and yet every turn there is a battle and my force is on offensive posture.

Here is the link from the previous game (AACW): http://www.ageod.net/aacwwiki/Military_control If you have a large force and the enemy do as well, then any change your force would make to the MC is negated by the enemy. Unfortunately, with the potential for a retreat failure that I believe was intr...

Gray...any explanation for why MC stays at zero, causing McDowell to keep attacking?

I am wondering if this lack of retreat after the initial battle is a result of TEAW changes. If no, it might be good for WW1, but not the Civil War.

In 1.01, retreat rules were 'hardened' but the axe swings too far. In 1.02 RC1 (due soon and already available to beta), retreat rule should be between 1.00 and 1.01, and with 2 bugs removed. Pocus, Any chance this hardening has causes this loop in CW2? http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?384...

There are no messages about failed retreat in the message logs. This has caused a loop that is unrealistic. McDowell moved into Manassas and lost, but failed to retreat. Now, every turn, for some reason (assuming MC), he again is automatically changed to "Offensive" and attacks, but again, doesn't r...

Not retreating after losing a battle

RC3. Is there a reason armies do not retreat after losing a battle but, instead, stay in the same location? Trying to get McDowell to return to Fairfax from Manassas. He lost a battle and stayed there. Now he has failed to return to Fairfax two turns in a row with ROE of defend/retreat, evade combat...

Here is what appeared to happen: 1. McDowell w...

I have CW2 installed on my desktop at home and my Surface Pro 3. Why is the save game directory on one "Civil War II" while the other is "Civil War 2"? Really enjoying the series. Up to 14. Wanted to point out that the drop in rating for a division commander is only on the turn they are formed I believe.

Also, just FYI, two of the units in the Lake Michigan fleet can move out of the Great Lakes.
