Played again using 1.12a

I spent an enjoyable couple of hours playing this - I used patch 1.12a which some say is the last good patch which I got from a place called patches scrolls de - a German site. I imagine for casual play the legacy patch 1.13 from here would be fine for most people - myself too really. Short scenario...

Still a nice game

Well I just spent a couple of hours last night playing this and Birth of America.

They run smoothly on my low spec Win 10 laptop.

Re: AGEOD BOER WAR

I've never got beyond the short scenarios like the Franco Prussian War because 1600 turns of solving 27 simultaneous equations or whatever to decide on trade goods just overwhelms me. So I fire it up, look at the map, think I must learn to play one day, and move on to something else. Anyway Loki if ...

Re: See how many soldiers in an army...

I agree Temgesic. Numbers of soldiers is how battle reports and campaign reports are written. This, I've just looked up Cannae: Armies: Carthage: 50,000: 32,000 heavy infantry, 8,000 light infantry, 10,000 cavalry Rome: 86,400: 40,000 Roman infantry, 40,000 allied infantry, 2,400 Roman cavalry, 4,00...

Plutarch's chapter on Sertorius

I imagine most of you who are fans of this game and era have come across this - but I have just read the chapter on Sertorius in Plutarch's - "Makers of Rome" - about 25 pages and a cracking read.

Hooray 1.03 and I finally get a victory as Rome in the Epirus scenario.

OK, it was on easy but I still feel my life has now been worthwhile. :)

Well done Pocus (and others) And a hint to new players

Well done. I'm really pleased for you that the launch of this seems to have gone so well. I hope it does well and the new engine can be used for more games. ----- Hint if you jumped in to the small Rome v Epirus scenario - and got thrashed in three or four turns several times on Easy setting. :) Sta...

Re: FoG:Empires vs Imperator:Rome

Well I've still got lots of AJE to play. And I have EU:Rome but have barely touched it. I'll certainly hold out for a while as my recent experience of buying new games has been bad (with the exception of Armored Brigade which been fine for me from the start). It may well be that my ageing body and c...

Thanks for the tip Leibst.

I was only thinking of playing this game again last week when I drove through Lyme Regis where the Parliamentarians held off a Royalist siege for 8 weeks in 1644.

Yes I too like the games and the historical feel they give.

Even if I don't have the patience to play the longer scenarios I still look at the maps wistfully.

Good luck and thanks for the games.

I guess that's another reason to avoid Windows 10 if possible. I generally install new games in a new directory, not whatever the default is, and set compatibility to Windows 7. Re: New patch ?

I have no problems with any of the Ageod games on my Windows 10 laptop. Your problem with the opt file was that you possibly saved it as a txt file after the change. Notepad did this to me until I noticed it. My issue with Ageod games, and think I have nearly all of them, is that I don't have enough...

Are command ratings based on post war analysis or what was perceived before the event? Re: How did the game do?

I have just updated my version of "The Operational Art of War" - there are over 500 user made scenarios so it is no wonder it has become one of the most esteemed war games. I've always felt Ageod missed a trick by making it so hard to alter things or make new scenarios. If a fraction of th...

One last push for victory 100 years on.

As probably the only person who plays this game, and even then only occasionally, I've fired it up for a couple of short scenarios. There is an AAR by someone on the Matrix site which covers the Moltke plan of Russia first which is unusual and which caught my eye. I've also played the Paradox game V...

Try the earlier Napoleon's Campaigns. Less than a £/$/€ (used) on Amazon in UK a few minutes ago and you get a paper manual.

Well I just played the Gettysburg scenario - albeit on AACW 1.06 - and got a glorious victory as the confederates by occupying Washington rather than Gettysburg having feinted a rush to get those mythical shoes.
