French Intervention in Mexico

Has anyone commanded during the French intervention in Mexico? I want to see how this event works but it takes a long time to reach those years in my game! :(

If so, please share your experience (how much did it rely on scripted events, was it a challenge, how did it end, etc. . . )

That is one powerful army . . . use it wisely. Can you briefly explain the Italian Unification to me (in your game, not the real-life one)? I somehow missed what happened with the northern Italian provinces, then suddenly you were fighting Gharibaldi for control of Sicily . . . not really much sense...

Marecone, the book idea is awesome! But it sounds pretty hard to implement. On another topic: I think the map should include Bull Run. I'm referring to the river. The current map doesn't show it. In reality it was very significant in the Battle of Bull Run as a major obstruction to the union troops....

Thanks Baris! I did not know that about the standard command cost for brigades.

So I guess all generals are judged with the same seniority scale, regardless of nationality?

Does the seniority restriction apply to all nationalities, or only commanders of the same nationality? For example I want Saxe-Hildburghausen to command the HRE army. I know he's a horrible commander, but he does have the trait "HRE Commander" which means he can command those troops without penalty....

Actually I don't understand in general how to form armies. I don't see any Army Headquarters like in AACW. How do I form an army (but especially with the HRE troops), and is there a limit to how many armies I can form?

Holy Roman Empire Army

How do I form an Army out of the HRE force initially commanded by Saxe-Hildburghausen? I am in Early April 1757 in my game. The force hasn't unlocked yet but I want to prepare my army for when it does. Is it possible to form an army of HRE units at all?

Perhaps a replay in scenes? Instead of the video-like replay of AACW it could be a series of a few snapshots every few days. I don't know if this makes any significant difference because I don't know how it works, but I think this would work as well as the AACW system.

From experience, most Union players set their landing forces to assault on the coastal forts. If your opponent is one of those people, you should keep the garrison inside the fort because they have a very big advantage defending against an assault. It probably still won't hold, but it might cause yo...

I did not see that. I am interested - are you trying to make Mexico playable in PON, with political events and the like? I am thinking of a more operational-level game, with scenarios for the American invasion of 1846-48, the Reforma war of the 1850s, the French invasion and possible involvement in...

Do all European countries require service legally? It seems that it is very common to have ancestors who were involved in their country's military. I am suprised so many forumites have also served. My ancestors are Mexican and never went to Europe. They only recently arrived in the United States, so I highly doubt they fought in any of the AGEOD conflicts, unless you count the French Intervention in Mexico which cameos in both AACW and PON. Even this is only a small chance, because my ancestry...

Wow. That was the close to an Austrian victory, and even then they surrendered. I think that is a good indication of how demoralised they are. I can't see how the war can continue for a long time now.

Well I guess if Austria is dying then Prussia becomes the rightful heir to the soon to be German Empire. So maybe this will make German Unification a bit more clear.

My suggestion is in the future you team up with Germany to take out the British.

Good luck!

Too bad for the Marines at Spit. Someday they will be avenged, when all the Dalmatian coast is Italian!

By the way, I love how you connected Depretis' fall with the fall of Spit. It seems realistic, considering the blaming that often occurs during wars.

The brigs and smaller ships can be placed in the Naval Trade Boxes on the right side of the map. You don't need to physically load them with cotton or anything like that; the game simulates this for you. You only need to make sure that you send them to a port if you see they run low on supply.

I still think 1-2-2 are better stats. As you stated, he was at least as good an attacker as Buell, Burnsides, and Pope, though I guess that is not saying much. But his attacking ability was almost totally countered by his inactivity. I think the game could show this pretty well by giving him decent ...

Aariediger: The plan looks beautiful on the map, it is true. But I think ol'choctaw is correct. When reality differed from the plan, McClellan messed up. He did win. That's important. I think his strategic rating should stay at one, because as stated he is already active by event. I don't think the events should be removed to balance with a higher strategic rating. This would remove the historical situation of Lincoln basically needing to FORCE McClellan to take offensive action ...

I haven't played Wars in America, but it seems like a sensible recommendation based on what Philo32b said.
