I don't know arsan, I had to provide my life story just to get that card  While you wait, try this 2008 thread on TMP for a "lively discussion" of the Szabo book. http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=130953 Caution: TMP is a great source for info but also a hotbed for flame wars. I have read Christopher Duffy: The Military Experience in the Age of Reason, it has some interesting anecdotes, but in general it is too light for my interests. I have the Osprey books on Rossbach/Leuthen, Kolin and Zorndorff, they are pretty good for Osprey standards. The Osprey Essential on the SY...

Questions about artillery in the game

Hi 1) Would infantry guns be counted as separated subunits? would they need separate replacement points from infantry 2) The Austrian 6pdr was the star of the war, being the first gun produced under the Griveaubal system, is that taken into the game? 3) Are howitzers represented as separated models ...

No Tagwyn, but the Civil War wasn't fought like Napoleonic, Franco-Prussian war or even WWII, i mean with the sword in your back thus there were no respite for a defeated foe...except in the end with Grant. With Napo and Moltke, after Manassas Washington would have been taken, the Army of northern ...

A battalion represent between 600 to 1000 men, French regiment with 4 battalions will need 4 times more command point than Hanovrian single batallion regiment. Good, what about cavalry? there were regiments with 5 squadrons, other with 10 squadrons...will larger regiments require more command points?

We tried to respect each army organisation with few conditions : - not too many sub-unit size  - brigade were only temporary organization - no division :neener: In conclusion : - SubUnits will be companies (infantry) or squadrons (cavalry) - Units wi...

I would venture a guess that Regiments will be the standard scale. Having to manage individual Battalions/Squadrons might get somewhat tedious in larger armies. I think it is safe to assume that the larger container formation will be Brigades but higher than that I have no idea. I guess it could be...

I hope it is Battalions for all infantry, it is a common unit to all armies, while regiments could have 1, 2 or 3 Bns depending on armies.
Cavalry is more difficult, squadrons are probably too small, maybe some sort of standarized regiment.

Epidemics and poor sanitation are a part of ROP random events ... they target larger stacks first ;) Good! but is there a way the player can prevent them? I mean, I don´t like pure random, I would like something like a critical size of stack over which the probability increase, also depending on te...

Well, in NCP and AACW there was rarely the case of stacks with not enough command points, especially in NCP there were so many slots free within divisions that even the Russians could be organized in stacks with no command penalty, maybe is that different in RoP? Another issue is inactive leaders, t...

Selecting large stacks for desease

I think there is a command to select the largest stacks, couldn´t that be used to hit them with disease? I mean, large human concentrations tended to produce epidemics at the time, it could be a reasonable way to select stacks instead of the rather random selection of small garrisons we have in AACW.

I thought that the "march divided" doctrine didn't become common until the Napoleonic Corps system was adopted. From my understanding, the armies during the SYW would advance along a single axis for the most part. They certainly didn't like to spread out any more than they had to for fear of being ...

Movement penalty for large stacks?

The strategy of the day was "march divided, fight united", because a large army on a single road would bottle it up, that was something I missed in NCP, where moving large stacks togather had no penalty, would something like that be implemented in ROP?

Nobody can judge Frederick from what-if situations that never happened. If we go that way, we will be able to justify almost all ratings that we want to invent... that's not the idea of this. We need to judge from what they did historically... or actually, in some cases, from what they didn't. ;) F...

While these seem obvious, I'm curious if there are other explanations why Prussia would have an increased movement rate compared to other European armies. Perhaps the inspiration of the Frederick himself? The main reason was discipline and organization, as it was apparent at Rossbach, while the Fre...

:) The player's style should arrive at the offensive posture the way Frederick did. Not because he didn't have the ability, but because it was strategic suicide to do so. I'm sure he could have been brilliant defensively, if that was the kind of war he wanted to fight. I am not so sure about that, ...

I consider Hochkirch to be a Prussian defensive battle even though it wasn't intended. Frederick was severly mauled by Daun in this surprise attack, but I would still rank Frederick higher than 1. Rating of Frederick in the game

I would hate to see a 6-6-6, that would not only non historical, it would probably kill the game as happened with NCP, where almost every campaign is heavily biased in favour of the French (I have only lost the 1814 campaign as French in PBEM). I would rate Frederick as 6-5-1. No doubt he was a very...

There's a disput to that really were the Peltastoi at this time. When you read Polybius they appear to be no more a light infantrymen.
