Attached sharpshooters will slow down cavalry formations. Same thing with horse artillery. Actually horse artillery will reduce the speed of a cavalry division to the speed of an infantry division. Which is OK dependent on how you intend to use the cavalry. Actually the speed reduction to a cavalry...

The McNaughton effect (should be trademarked) is a dreadful one to contemplate. Besides, almost all the useful Union 3-4 stars serve their time as 1-2 stars. They still have plenty of opportunities to get whacked prior to their 3-4 star days. It's been a while since I played the CSA so I don't remem...

I've played 4 complete games as Union, 2 as CSA. I've never been able to promote all of the historical Army or Corps commanders to the rank they achieved. I figure I get about 50-60% of the Union generals to their historical rank. A little % higher w/ the CSA. The later Union generals (Ord, Schofiel...

My $.02 which repeats alot of what was said above: Each div has one of the big brigades w/ organic artillery and cav as a base and add a sharpshooter. Fill the rest w/ infantry and maybe 1-2 arty. Never add cavalry. IMO cav is too expensive, doesn't have enough firepower and is ineffective in anythi...

For most of the lopsided battle results that I've seen there have been explanations, the most dangerous one being the "retreat to town" button. If a defending army retreats to a town in its province after losing a battle and the attacking army has assault posture on, it's going to be a beat down. OT...

Accessing a particular general from the roster by a "double-click, close roster, go to general" command is kind of a wish list from BoA. Don't know if it's possible. I got to the point in BoA that I recognized all the province names. Not enough brain cells left to memorize all the province names in ...

All good points. Was wishing there was a way to have the AACW corps level movement in minature. In the same province only those leaders in command of a separate stack roll for initiative. Random thoughts re Ticonderoga's artillery: Knox's force wasn't that large. From what I've read it seems that he was at the limit of his transport capacity. Some of the guns he transported didn't even go to Washington. The following site (not great I know) shows that 87 cannon/howitzers were at Tico...

You have a good chance of survival, though not without casualties. The skirmisher skill allows Washington a 50/50 chance (just guessing here) to run away after the 1st or 2nd day if he has less than equal numbers of troops. If he has numerical superiority he'll generally try to stand and fight. In a...

I don't look at losses like they were dead to the last man, especially for the rebels. I just consider them as "permanently buggered off" for the duration of the conflict.
