I remember reading somewhere that light infantry has a decided advantage regarding frontage. I think this is because they are easier to deploy than line infantry, so they take up less space in battle and thus more of them can participate in the battle. I'm not entirely sure how valuable this benefit...

I am up for it. Who's hosting?

I haven't much experience as the CSA, but I'm willing to give it a try. Just send me a PM.

Thanks very much guys. Does this also mean that I cannot build in a region with a depot (and no city/structure)?

Ah I see thank you very much. I suppose the issue in my game is I am attempting to build a fort in a region without a city.

Wow another building rule that seems to be tailored for the purpose of ruining my plans :)

Building Forts

I am having difficulty building forts in my game. I found a brief description in the manual, but as far as I can tell I'm doing everything correct. Can you all please explain to me the requirements for building?

Darn. Time to go to plan B. Well thank you very much anyway. Do you have any idea why this is in the manual at all?

The Importance of Railroads

This is a question that has been bothering me for a while and I was wondering if you all could clear it up for me. I have played the game enough to understand the importance of railroads in a supply line, but what about building railroads? I have combed through the pdf manual and there are no instru...

As far as advice goes for playing the game, I'm sorry to say that I can give very little. I'm not a very experienced player. But if you are having trouble getting hooked on the game, then I reccommend some historical immersion. When I first started playing the game, I thought it was way too hard and...

In Want of An Opponent . . .

I've only started playing a few months ago, but I I'm itching to try the game against a human opponent. I hate losing to computers. The problem is I have never played a PBEM and don't know how. I was wondering if there was anybody out there who's willing to play with me (and maybe show me the ropes)...

I've been wondering about that too. By conscripts, you mean militia and volunteers, right? and by regiments, are you refering to the unit elements?

Well thanks for all the tips. With all this advice I was able to take Nashville using Grant's corps of McDowell's Army of the Tennessee. But I still have one more question. The AI managed to get Bragg into Nashville before I took the city, so he took over command of the force previously under Polk. ...

3 to 1 odds. Those are on the good side (assuming that one of the units isn't a division). So yes, you will most likely win (nothing's guaranteed). Check the power rating (yours vs. theirs), which you should be able to see, if you know there are 6 units in Nashville to determine if you still have 3...

Thanks again for the advice, guys. I will make sure to organize forces to protect my rear, and I'll do my best to campaign against Island #10 simultaneously. As for Nashville, regarding what you said Jim-NC, I used only my detection values when I estimated that the force was around 5,000. So you're ...

Union players are always faced with this dilemma: do I move quickly and risk my force, or do I build up only to face an entrenched CSA? It's a style of play issue I suppose. In my PBEM games, I find that once you lose those federal troops, it takes a long time to reestablish your numbers. Let me su...

Thanks for the hospitality guys. I appreciate all the welcomes :) Sorry if I'm kinda brief right now. Anyway, I was wond...

I don't know whether or not this is the best place to ask this, but how would Rosecrans do as Army of The Potomac commander? It seems like I tend to treat the Eastern theatre as secondary, and Rosy seems fine on defensive, so this should suit my playing style I think. Just thinking aloud . . . what ...
