Many thanks, Random -- very informative. The RR conversion thing still kind of baffles me. Having to devote a corps (even mobilized or reservist corps) to RR conversion seems a high price to pay, which is why I haven't gotten into the habit of manually converting, especially since it seems to be tak...

Request for some game tips - ?

Having pored over the game manuals many times (and continuing to do so), I hope some of these questions aren't of the "just read the manual" answer variety. After a couple of false starts (aka 'learning the hard way'), I'm into 1915 playing as Germany vs. the AI in the 4-player grand campaign. I'm p...

Metalist -- glad to hear you're giving it another try! I hope you find, as I did, that if you stick with it, things will really start to make sense, and you'll be hooked. For me, the big barriers to playing the game initially were the very complex, rather un-intuitive rules, and maybe more, the 'tem...

World War One Gold is absolutely superb

Nothing really profound to say here -- just wanted to voice my tremendous appreciation to Calvinus and everyone at AGEOD who created this amazing game. I actually bought WW1 Gold back in early 2010 (!). I've tried on several occasions since then to get into it, but I never managed to succeed. There ...

^ Thanks for the encouragement, Random. I certainly agree with you that WW1 is a very special game -- I'm by no means trying to bash it. Still, if the dev's are looking to improve anything, I would love to see some improvements made to (1) the UI, first and foremost, and (2) optimization... the lagg...

@gwgardner -- thanks for investigating -- your suppositions are certainly interesting & it would be good to get confirmation. Honestly, it should *not* be so difficult to figure these things out -- and I have to be honest too, I've all but stopped playing this game because of all these UI difficulti...

Help with map modes

Without meaning to be too critical, I have to say that the map in this game – and various map modes – is very frustrating. For one, the lag when scrolling is a huge nuisance, even though I’ve done everything in my power to lessen it (through the Configurator, and trying single-CPU mode), and despite...

Thanks for the detailed explanation, Gray Lensman -- I'm at a loss here then. Unless there's some other way to force the .exe to use only one core, I don't see what I can do, since running the game via the batch file keeps getting hung up at some point in the game launch process. Assuming I can't ge...

I assume you're running WW1.EXE in XP SP2 Compatibilty mod e and you disabled the "Desktop composition" option. Did you do it? :) yikes... when I run in XP SP2 Compatibility mode and disable "desktop composition," it makes the problem *worse* -- now when I launch from the WW1 Windows batch file, it...

I appreciate the help -- would really like to get this to work -- haven't really been able to play this game properly yet! I am running as admin., and have UAC turned off. When I launch from the batch file, choose a scenario, and then get the hang-up on the "Initializing map" screen, when I force-qu...

Thanks for the help, Grey Lensman. I launched from the batch file like you indicated -- game launches correctly, and I can see that it is v.1.08I in the corner of the main screen. However.... when i choose any scenario / campaign, it starts to boot, gets through the "initializing" phase, but then co...

Launch in single core mode?

I've been having the same mouse lag issues that other folks playing on Win 7 x64 have been, so I was excited to hear about the single core mode. I installed patch 1.08I, which acc. to the readme says: - Game can now be launched in sinlge-core-CPU mode However, when I open the WWI Configurator, there...
